In an impressive stride towards sustainable mobility, HORSE Powertrain has unveiled its 1.8-litre, 4-cylinder combustion engine, which will power the All-New Dacia Bigster HYBRID 155—the flagship model of Dacia’s newly-revealed SUV range. This significant development marks a pivotal moment for both HORSE and the automotive industry, as it showcases the brand’s commitment to innovation and low-emission solutions.
A Groundbreaking Powertrain
The All-New Bigster HYBRID 155 is set to redefine performance in the SUV class, leveraging a powertrain that combines HORSE’s combustion engine with advanced electric capabilities. This engine, produced at HORSE’s state-of-the-art plant in Valladolid, Spain, delivers a robust 107bhp, representing the first engine designed and manufactured entirely in-house since HORSE’s inception in July 2023.
Matias Giannini, CEO of Horse Powertrain, emphasized the significance of this milestone, stating, “The flagship All-New Bigster will be a perfect showcase of Horse Powertrain’s hybrid powertrain leadership and expertise. As the first engine produced entirely within our HORSE division, this moment is extremely significant for the automotive industry. Horse Powertrain has now proved that it can handle the full life cycle of engine development and production. With our consolidated powertrain expertise, we are helping brands and OEMs to innovate and bring new offerings to market at an unparalleled pace.”

Enhanced Performance and Efficiency
The HYBRID 155 powertrain integrates not just the HORSE engine but also features two electric motors: a 50bhp high-voltage starter/generator and a 1.4kWh 230V battery. The innovative design includes a clutchless gearbox with four gears dedicated to the combustion engine and two for the electric motors, optimizing the vehicle’s performance across various driving conditions.
Patrice Haettel, CEO of HORSE, highlighted the engine’s efficiency, stating, “Our latest high-efficiency, market-leading engine will ensure that the All-New Bigster offers incredible performance and efficiency in all conditions and driving modes, providing a convenient and low-emission vehicle that raises the bar for the SUV class.” The model significantly improves upon the existing HYBRID 140 powertrain, boasting a 6% reduction in fuel consumption and emissions, while also providing an impressive towing capacity of up to one tonne.
Innovative Technologies for Urban Driving
One of the standout features of the All-New Bigster HYBRID 155 is its ability to operate in all-electric mode for up to 80% of city driving, thanks to its regenerative braking and high battery energy recovery capabilities. This advanced technology not only enhances the vehicle’s eco-friendliness but also offers a seamless driving experience, allowing the Bigster to start in all-electric mode each time.
The Bigster’s hybrid powertrain exemplifies HORSE’s commitment to sustainable and efficient driving solutions, appealing to a growing market of environmentally-conscious consumers who seek performance without compromising on efficiency.
With the All-New Dacia Bigster HYBRID 155, HORSE Powertrain is not only setting a new standard in the SUV segment but also reaffirming its position as a leader in the development of innovative powertrain solutions. As the automotive industry continues to evolve towards hybrid and electric technologies, the Bigster represents a significant leap forward, showcasing HORSE’s engineering prowess and dedication to creating vehicles that meet the demands of today’s drivers while contributing to a greener future.
