HORSE, a renowned leader in low-emission powertrain systems, has forged a significant multi-year partnership with HABAň, an emerging Turkish automotive manufacturer. This collaboration marks HORSE’s initial foray into supplying engines to a company outside its established ownership network, following several successful engagements in South America.
Under the terms of the agreement, HORSE will provide its advanced M920 RWD 2.0-litre turbo diesel engines to HABAŞ for their inaugural range of Light Commercial Vehicles. These vehicles will be assembled at HABAŞ’s new production facility in Manisa, Türkiye. The choice of HORSE’s powertrain technology highlights its global capability and expertise in delivering high-performance, efficient engines.
Patrice Haettel, CEO of HORSE, commented on the deal, stating, “This partnership not only signifies a major milestone for HORSE but also underscores our commitment to expanding our reach and delivering superior, eco-friendly powertrain solutions globally. Our presence in Bursa, Türkiye, perfectly positions us to support HABAŞ as they ramp up their commercial vehicle production.”
The 2.0-litre engine is designed to optimize performance and fuel efficiency, producing 170PS at 3,500rpm and 380Nm of torque at just 1,500rpm. This ensures robust driveability across various conditions. Featuring a high-pressure common rail injection system and a variable vane turbine turbocharger, the engine offers precise fuel delivery and outstanding response throughout all speeds.

Moreover, this powertrain complies with the stringent Euro 6d+e emissions standards, making it suitable for European markets and supporting the use of B10 diesel, which includes 10% biofuel for reduced environmental impact.
HORSE operates from eight production facilities across seven countries, including three R&D centers, and maintains its global headquarters in Madrid, Spain. The company’s broad footprint supports its production of 3.2 million units annually, catering to diverse power generation needs worldwide.
The HABAŞ Group, established in 1956 by Hamdi Başaran and now led by Chairman Mehmet R. Başaran, has expanded into various sectors including industrial and medical gases, steel, power generation, and more recently, automotive manufacturing. With the acquisition of the former HONDA Türkiye plant, HABAŞ plans to extend its automotive production to include passenger cars alongside its existing range of electric and diesel-powered buses and trucks. This strategic move into automotive manufacturing demonstrates HABAŞ’s commitment to innovation and international standards in vehicle production.
