In the high-octane world of hypercars, breaking speed records is a testament to engineering excellence and visionary ambition. Hennessey Special Vehicles has once again pushed the envelope, with founder and CEO John Hennessey driving the Venom F5 Coupe to a jaw-dropping 219.07 mph in a standing half-mile. This achievement not only cements the Venom F5’s status as the “decathlete of hypercars” but also highlights the relentless pursuit of performance that defines the Hennessey brand.

The Record-Breaking Run
On a sunny day in Sealy, Texas, John Hennessey took the wheel of the Venom F5 Coupe for a routine engineering session. What followed was anything but ordinary. Utilizing Racelogic VBOX satellite telemetry and Dragy performance data, Hennessey recorded an astounding 219.07 mph in the half-mile. Not far behind, test driver David Donohue hit an impressive 221.92 mph, potentially setting a new world record for the distance.

This remarkable feat was achieved under less-than-ideal conditions. The track surface was dusty and unprepared, and temperatures ranged from 80 to 90 degrees Fahrenheit (27-32 Celsius). Despite these challenges, the Venom F5 Coupe’s performance was nothing short of extraordinary.

Engineering Marvel: The Venom F5
The Venom F5 is powered by a 6.6L twin-turbo V8 engine, aptly named “Fury,” producing a staggering 1,817 bhp on E85 biofuel. This immense power is delivered to the road through Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2R tires, which are street-legal yet capable of handling the hypercar’s extreme capabilities.

When the Venom F5 was introduced in 2021, Hennessey promised a vehicle that excelled in all aspects of hypercar performance. Whether on the road, in straight-line speed tests, or at the racetrack, the Venom F5 was designed to dominate. This was further proven in March of this year when the Revolution coupe set a new production car lap record at Circuit of The Americas with a time of 2:10.90.

Outpacing the Competition
The Venom F5’s recent achievement comes hot on the heels of a highly publicized drag race between the Rimac Nevera and the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport. In that event, YouTube creator Steve Hamilton recorded speeds of 206.77 mph for the Nevera and 193.67 mph for the Chiron over the half-mile distance. The Venom F5 surpassed these speeds by 15 mph and 28 mph, respectively, solidifying its position as America’s premier hypercar.

Looking Ahead
With a current focus on surpassing the 300 mph mark, Hennessey Special Vehicles is poised to continue breaking boundaries. The company has already built and delivered 23 Venom F5 models, including Coupe, Roadster, and Revolution variants, with 17 more orders lined up through 2024 and 2025. While all Coupe and Revolution Roadster models are sold out, enthusiasts still have the opportunity to own a Venom F5 Roadster or a Revolution coupe.

The Hennessey Venom F5’s record-breaking half-mile run is a testament to the relentless pursuit of excellence that defines Hennessey Special Vehicles. As the hypercar landscape evolves, the Venom F5 stands as a beacon of what is possible when engineering prowess meets visionary leadership. For those eager to experience this marvel of modern automotive engineering, Hennessey Special Vehicles offers a rare chance to own a piece of history.
