JOHANNESBURG, JULY 2025 – A landmark moment in South Africa’s classic car calendar is fast approaching as Creative Rides gears up for its highly anticipated Winter Auction, taking place on Saturday, July 12 at the Creative Rides Showroom in Bryanston. More than 40 collector-grade vehicles are set to go under the hammer—led by one of the rarest and most desirable Porsches ever built.
At the heart of this exceptional showcase is a 1989 Porsche 911 Speedster, a factory Turbo-look unicorn that marries Stuttgart engineering with timeless design. Unveiled as a concept in 1987 and produced for just one year, the Speedster paid homage to the minimalist icon of 1955 while embracing modern performance. With its low-slung windscreen, distinctive double-bubble rear deck, and raw 3.2-litre flat-six air-cooled engine producing 232 hp, the car delivers unfiltered Porsche character.
Only 2,104 Speedsters were built globally in 1989—and just 139 were right-hand drive. This particular example, finished in classic Guards Red, is one of just 64 UK RHD units and is believed to be the only known example on the African continent. Currently fitted with RUF wheels and 964-series rear panels, the car retains its original bodywork, making it a crown jewel for any discerning Porsche collector.

A Curated Collection of Global Icons and Local Legends
But the Speedster is just the tip of the iceberg in a lineup that spans continents and decades of motoring excellence.
Among the headliners is a 1958 Mercedes-Benz 220S Cabriolet, a vision of post-war elegance with coach-built credentials. One of just 22 RHD units ever made, this cream-over-red beauty has undergone a meticulous nut-and-bolt restoration, combining rarity with show-stopping quality. Under the bonnet lies a smooth 2.2-litre straight-six—a quiet reminder of the engineering pedigree beneath its graceful lines.
Jaguar enthusiasts will be drawn to a 1962 E-Type Series 1 Coupe, an ultra-collectable early production “flat floor” example with a matching-numbers chassis in the 500s. With its original wire wheels, tool kit, and restoration to concours standard, it represents a high point in British design and motorsport heritage.
The auction also embraces American muscle with a modern twist, headlined by a 1969 Dodge Charger Hemi Restomod. Originally a factory 440 R/T, this beast now roars to life with a 528ci Chrysler HEMI V8 crate motor, delivering 640 hp and 829 Nm of torque. Featuring coilover suspension, Wilwood disc brakes, a modern overdrive transmission, and a custom interior, this Charger is more than just a restomod—it’s a street-legal redefinition of American brute force.
Adding vintage Hollywood flair is a 1935 Ford V8 Roadster, famously featured in the 1979 film Arthur. Painstakingly restored and finished in deep burgundy, this pre-war icon runs on the legendary flathead V8 and remains a celebration of Art Deco Americana.
