- Subaru sponsors new Gundog of the Year Award at CLA Game Fair
- Winner’s owner to receive a Subaru Outback for 12 months

Subaru UK has confirmed its sponsorship of the CLA Game Fair for the 22nd consecutive year and at the same time a new prize for the event’s gundog competition – the loan of a Subaru Outback to the winning dog’s owner for seven dog years (one human year).
Always an annual highlight in the country events calendar, this year’s CLA Game Fair (gamefair.co.uk) takes place from 20 to 22 July, in the magnificent grounds and surrounds of Belvoir Castle, Leicestershire.
Throughout the three-day event, the Subaru Working Test Arena will host the UK’s premier summer gundog event, in which up to 50 entrants per day are expected to compete.
Darren James, Managing Director of Subaru UK, commented: “The Subaru Working Test Arena will give handlers the chance to test their dogs against some of the most exacting challenges they’ll face. Subaru has a longstanding reputation for providing vehicles that can take everything in their stride, and we’re confident that the 12-month winner of the Subaru Outback will find the car far exceeds their requirements for a rugged, reliable vehicle that can go anywhere, and go anywhere in luxury – with or without a dog in the back.”
Not only does the Subaru Outback feature the manufacturer’s permanent Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system – allowing the car to tackle almost any terrain – it also incorporates a higher ride height than competitors, robust body-cladding and a practical estate car body, making it the ideal car for on- and off-road driving. The CLA Gundog of the Year competition is open to all UK dogs with a Kennel Club Field Trial award and to those who have won an Open Working Test. Handlers who believe their dog to be of open working standard may also enter, but their entry form must be endorsed by the gamekeeper on the shoot where they work their dog. Entries close on 14 July, with forms available from the Game Fair website.
Judges for the CLA Gundog of the Year award include John Stubbs, former Head Gamekeeper to the Royal Family at Windsor, and Phil Allen, both ‘A’ panel judges for retrievers, as well as Ron Loomes, ‘A’ panel judge for spaniels.
