Aspiring motoring journalists under the age of 30 have just days left to enter one of the industry’s most respected accolades. The Guild of Motoring Writers (GOMW) Toyota Young Journalist of the Year Award closes for entries at midnight on Tuesday, 30 September, offering the winner a career-boosting prize and national recognition.
A Prestigious Platform for Emerging Talent
Open to both Guild members and non-members, the award recognises exceptional journalism that blends thorough research with engaging storytelling. The winner will receive a £500 cash prize, a trophy, and one year’s complimentary Guild membership, offering invaluable networking opportunities within the UK’s most established motoring media organisation.
The award will be presented at the Guild’s annual black-tie dinner in December, held at the historic RAC Club in Pall Mall, London, alongside the GOMW/MICA Young PR Professional of the Year Award. Three finalists will each be invited as guests to the event, ensuring their work is celebrated in front of leading figures from across the automotive industry.

A Legacy of Influential Winners
Past recipients have gone on to make a significant impact in the automotive media. Notably, Richard Aucock, inaugural winner and 2020–22 Guild Chair, is now a director of the respected agency Motoring Research.
Last year’s winner, Ryan Standen, impressed judges with a captivating feature in Classic & Sports Car about the infamous Lotus Carlton involved in a series of 1990s ram raids—a car so fast it left police Rovers in its wake. Standen’s story was praised for its forensic research, which included interviews with the original owner and details of a period police Rover SD1.
