The prestigious Guild of Motoring Writers (GOMW) Awards have officially opened for 2024 entries, inviting submissions from motoring journalists and professionals for a chance to be recognised among the best in the industry. The awards, which span a wide array of categories, offer both trophies and cash prizes to winners, with the top entries to be announced during the annual black-tie dinner at the Royal Automobile Club on December 5th, 2024.

For those wishing to enter, the deadline is fast approaching—entries must be submitted by midnight on Monday, September 30th. To qualify, works must have been published between October 1st, 2023, and September 30th, 2024. This ensures that the most current and impactful journalism is considered for the awards, which have long been a benchmark of quality and achievement in automotive media.

Categories that Highlight the Breadth of Automotive Writing
The Guild of Motoring Writers has curated an impressive range of categories, designed to showcase the diversity of talent within the field. Each category recognises excellence in specific areas, ranging from campaigning journalism and technical writing to features on classic cars and motorsports coverage.

Among the notable categories is the AA Campaigning for Motoring Award, where entrants are asked to submit work that focuses on driving positive change for motorists. This might include road safety advocacy, environmental issues, or raising awareness about electric vehicles (EVs). Judges will be looking for passionate and persuasive writing that encourages tangible change.

Another significant accolade is the RAC EV Journalist of the Year, a timely award in today’s rapidly evolving automotive landscape. With the rise of EVs, this category seeks out innovative and informative journalism that captures the essence of the electric vehicle movement. Entrants in this category can submit one article for consideration, with the winner taking home £500 and a coveted trophy.

For photographers, the Subaru Photographic Awards offers two categories—General and Motorsport—with each awarding £250 and a trophy to the best portfolio of six images. The judging criteria here emphasise creativity and technical prowess, seeking fresh perspectives on automotive photography.

One of the most prestigious awards of the evening, the Sue Baker Journalist of the Year Award, is open to both Guild members and non-members, celebrating the overall ‘best of the best’. This award takes into account entries across all categories, highlighting a single individual whose work exemplifies outstanding journalistic skill.

A Showcase of Automotive Excellence
The 2024 Guild of Motoring Writers Awards ceremony promises to be a grand affair, held once again at the Royal Automobile Club—an iconic venue that has become synonymous with the Guild’s annual celebration. Attended by leading figures in the automotive industry, the event serves not only as a recognition of individual talent but also as a platform for networking and camaraderie among the motoring community.

For those looking to make their mark in motoring journalism or to celebrate years of hard-earned experience, the GOMW Awards are an unmissable opportunity. Whether you’re a writer focusing on commercial vehicles, classic cars, or cutting-edge technology, these awards are designed to highlight the very best in automotive storytelling.

For full details on categories, prize money, and how to enter, aspiring candidates are encouraged to visit the Guild’s official website and review the entry instructions carefully. Questions about the process can be directed to the Guild’s Honorary Secretary, Richard Netherwood.

As the September 30th deadline looms, the motoring world eagerly awaits to see which journalists, editors, photographers, and authors will rise to the top of their respective categories, cementing their place in the history of automotive excellence.
