QUADROPHENIA STAR PHIL DANIELS OPENS ‘BRIGHTON PIER’ AT GOODWOOD MOTOR CIRCUIT AHEAD OF 2014 REVIVAL MEETING
Goodwood, West Sussex, 8 September 2014 – British actor Phil Daniels visited Goodwood to officially launch the ‘Brighton Pier’ installation at the Motor Circuit ahead of the Revival Meeting, which takes place from 12-14 September.
Installed at the Motor Circuit to mark 50 years since the height of the Mods and Rockers scene in Britain, the installation of Brighton Pier at Goodwood is one of several iconic period reproductions set to make this year’s Goodwood Revival Meeting the biggest and best yet.
Speaking from the Brighton Pier installation, Daniels said: “50 years ago this summer saw the Mods and Rockers scene come to a dramatic climax on south of England beaches. It’s hard to believe that 35 years ago we released Quadrophenia, set in that heady summer of ’64. It’s a real pleasure to be back in West Sussex marking these anniversaries with my friends here at Goodwood, they have done a remarkable job of the period installations and I can’t wait for the Revival Meeting – see you there.”
Phil Daniels will open the Motor Circuit on Friday 12 September by leading a procession of some 100 period scooters around the track to mark the start of the Goodwood Revival Meeting 2014.
Goodwood Revival truly is a magical step back in time, celebrating the halcyon days of motor racing as it used to be, with all the accompanying spectacle and glamour of the era 1948 – 1966, the post-war period of competitive motor racing at the Goodwood Motor Circuit. Competitors and spectators alike dress in period fashions with the finest sights and entertainment of the pre-1966 era for all to enjoy.
Highlights this year will include celebrations marking 75 years of RAF Westhampnett with a ‘West Sussex at War’ parade, 60 years of the Jaguar D-type with one of the largest gatherings of D-types in the world, 60 years of the ‘small block’ V8 engine, 50 years of the Ford Mustang, 50 years of Bond film Goldfinger with Pussy Galore’s helicopter taking centre stage in the Freddie March Spirit of Aviation exhibition, 50 years since Sir Jackie Stewart was ‘discovered’ driving at Goodwood, 50 years since the Order of the Bards, Ovates and Druids with a life-size Stonehenge installation and 50 years since the summer of ’64 saw the Mods and Rockers duking it out at seaside resorts across the south coast of England, with a Brighton Pier installation and Quadrophenia-style scooter procession led by Phil Daniels.
