DETROIT – GMC posted an 18.8 percent sales increase in 2011, adding to the customer base that has trusted GMC-branded trucks, crossovers, and SUVs for 100 years.

Every GMC model line available – Sierra, Terrain, Yukon/XL, Acadia, Savana, and Canyon – posted a sales increase versus 2010. Retail vehicle sales for GMC in 2011 were up 16.0 percent versus 2010, beating the industry average of approximately 12 percent.   Acadia and Terrain, which recently earned Consumers Digest “Best Buy” awards for 2012, each had its best year ever. Compared to 2010, total Acadia sales were up 16.1 percent, while total Terrain sales increased by 37.4 percent.

“Our sales success in 2010 set the bar high for 2011, but growth has continued at a brisk pace. said Brian Sweeney, U.S. vice president of Buick and GMC Sales and Service. “Credit is due not only to a strong product line, but to a great network of dealers as well.”   In December, GMC had its best month of the year by nearly 8,000 units. In particular, Sierra HD pickups combined for a 20.0 percent gain in total sales over the previous year.

The Sierra line as a whole ended 2011 with its strongest sales month of the year, as did Terrain and Yukon.    Just before the year ended, GMC also passed a social media milestone by gaining its 400,000th Facebook fan. Each day, the Facebook.com/GMC page delivers more than 8 million page impressions.
