In a remarkable show of corporate responsibility, South African automotive innovator getWorth has raised R100,000 for GRIT – Gender Rights in Tech, an NGO committed to addressing gender-based violence (GBV) through technology. This impressive milestone comes as part of a dedicated July and August campaign, underscoring getWorth’s mission to drive meaningful social change.

Empowering Survivors Through Technology
The funds raised will go directly toward enhancing GRIT’s work in empowering survivors of GBV. The organisation, formerly known as Kwanele, has harnessed technology to create a lifeline for survivors, offering tools that can make a difference in critical moments. Key to this effort is the GRIT app, which has seen over 9,000 downloads during the fundraising period alone. This spike in downloads highlights the app’s essential role in providing survivors with a suite of features, including an emergency panic button, secure evidence storage, and access to crucial services such as counselling and legal aid.

Leonora Tima, CEO and Founder of GRIT, expressed her heartfelt gratitude for the collaboration. “We are so grateful to getWorth for their dedication to our work. Because of their contribution, we are able to make sure that more women have access to our lifesaving technology. Their team is so amazing to work with, and we would not be able to do what we do without partners like them. Their partnership not only supports us financially but helps us get the app into the hands of people who need it most,” said Tima.

A Meaningful Partnership
getWorth’s role in this initiative goes beyond financial support. By driving awareness and facilitating access to GRIT’s life-saving tools, the company is helping survivors of GBV across South Africa to take back control of their lives. Jamie Surkont, Co-founder and CEO of getWorth, shared his pride in the campaign’s success: “We’re proud of this milestone. Our customers’ support has not only made a tangible financial difference but also helped expand the reach of life-saving tech for survivors.”

Surkont’s sentiment underscores a growing recognition among businesses that social impact must be an integral part of their mission. getWorth has managed to strike a balance between running a cutting-edge automotive platform and contributing to a safer, more equitable future for communities in need.

A Thank You to Customers
getWorth’s success in this campaign is a testament to the commitment of its customers, whose decision to buy or sell cars with the company helped fuel this achievement. Every transaction during the campaign contributed directly to GRIT’s mission, allowing getWorth to drive both business success and meaningful social change.

Continuing the Fight
As the partnership between getWorth and GRIT continues, both organisations are committed to raising further awareness and creating safer, empowered futures for GBV survivors in South Africa. The impact of this collaboration extends far beyond the financial contribution—it’s about driving change and empowering those who need it most.

How You Can Join the Movement
To help make a difference, here’s how you can contribute to the ongoing fight against gender-based violence:

  • Download the GRIT app: Available on Google Play and iOS, this app equips survivors with vital resources for safety and support.
  • Spread the word: Share the app with your network to raise awareness and ensure that more survivors know they are not alone.
  • Donate to GRIT: Your contribution will help keep the app free and accessible, allowing more survivors to receive critical support.
