For these 2009 models available right now and despite many misconceptions, General Motors will have 18 models for sale in the United States that are capable of achieving around 8 l/100 km or better on the open road. The models include sedans, crossovers and SUVs. Chevrolet will lead the way with eight impressively frugal models while Pontiac and Saturn will each have five models.

The two litre six speed Chevrolet Malibu is one of the notable non-hybrid midsize sedans with a fuel consumption figure of around 7.5 l/100 km. It is joined by the popular Aveo sedan which is available with either a manual or an automatic transmission. Each of these models illustrates the Chevrolet brand’s value for money promise.

“Exceptional fuel economy is just one of the ways that Chevrolet cars manage to provide even more value for customers than ever before,” said Tim Hendon, GMSA Product Communications Manager. “Locally we have the newly launched Chevrolet Aveo hatchback, the Spark and the Optra with the Cruze expected after 2010. All these models offer high levels of fuel economy in addition to other features typical of Chevrolet such as superior build quality, a generous list of standard equipment, spacious cabin and an array of safety features.
