Geely Auto South Africa has expanded its growing electric vehicle line-up with the introduction of the new Geely E5 Apex Plus, a premium electric SUV aimed at drivers seeking advanced technology, lower running costs, and long-range everyday practicality.

Positioned as the flagship derivative in the local E5 range, the Apex Plus joins the existing Aspire and Apex models while strengthening Geely’s commitment to sustainable mobility in South Africa.

The Geely E5 range is now available in the following derivatives:

Geely E5 Aspire – R699 999
Geely E5 Apex – R759 999
Geely E5 Apex Plus – R788 888

With its combination of modern styling, intelligent safety systems, strong electric performance, and premium comfort features, the E5 Apex Plus arrives at a time when South African motorists are increasingly exploring alternatives to traditional internal combustion vehicles.

The E5 Apex Plus features a sleek aerodynamic exterior design with bold SUV proportions, integrated LED lighting, and a refined front fascia that gives the vehicle a distinctly modern road presence. Measuring 4 615 mm in length, 1 901 mm in width, and 1 670 mm in height, the SUV also benefits from a generous 2 750 mm wheelbase that contributes to improved interior space and passenger comfort.

Practicality remains central to the package, with the vehicle offering 461 litres of luggage capacity alongside a spacious flat-floor cabin layout made possible by its dedicated EV platform.

Powering the E5 Apex Plus is a front-mounted electric motor delivering 160 kW and 320 Nm of torque. The electric SUV is capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.6 seconds before reaching a top speed of 175 km/h.

Like most modern EVs, the E5 Apex Plus delivers instant torque response, resulting in smooth acceleration and refined driving characteristics whether navigating urban traffic or travelling on longer routes.

Compared to the standard Apex model, the Apex Plus introduces a larger 68.39 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery pack in place of the Apex’s 60.22 kWh unit. This increases the WLTP combined driving range from 410 km to 450 km, making the Apex Plus better suited to drivers requiring additional long-distance capability.

Despite the larger battery and slightly increased curb weight of 1 815 kg, the Apex Plus maintains competitive efficiency figures with a claimed WLTP combined energy consumption of 16.2 kWh/100 km.

Charging capability is another key highlight. The E5 Apex Plus supports AC charging of up to 11 kW and DC fast charging of up to 100 kW. Under ideal conditions, the battery can charge from 30% to 80% in approximately 20 minutes using a DC fast charger, significantly reducing downtime during longer journeys.

Inside, the cabin adopts a technology-focused approach with a large 15.4-inch HD infotainment touchscreen paired with a 10.2-inch digital driver display. Wireless smartphone charging, USB Type-A and Type-C ports, voice control functionality, over-the-air software updates, keyless entry, and push-button start all form part of the standard specification.

The premium feel is further enhanced through leather-appointed seating, power-adjustable front seats, and a panoramic sunroof designed to maximise cabin openness and comfort.

Safety also plays a central role in the E5 Apex Plus package. The SUV is equipped with a comprehensive suite of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems including Adaptive Cruise Control, Autonomous Emergency Braking, Lane Keeping Assist, Blind Spot Detection, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Electronic Stability Control, Hill Descent Control, and a Driver Monitoring System.

Multiple airbags and intelligent occupant protection systems further strengthen the vehicle’s safety credentials across varying driving conditions.

Geely says the E5 Apex Plus has been designed not only to deliver premium electric mobility, but also to reduce long-term ownership costs. With zero fuel spend, fewer moving mechanical components, and reduced servicing requirements compared to traditional petrol and diesel vehicles, owners stand to benefit from lower day-to-day operating expenses.

The E5 Apex Plus is backed by Geely’s GEELY CARE+ ownership programme, which includes a 6-year/150 000 km vehicle warranty, a 6-year/120 000 km service plan, an 8-year/200 000 km battery warranty, and 5 years of unlimited roadside assistance.

Customers will also receive a wall box charger, an emergency charging cable, and a R12 000 charging voucher when financing the vehicle through Geely Finance.

As competition in South Africa’s electric vehicle market continues to intensify, the Geely E5 Apex Plus positions itself as a strong contender by combining long-range capability, premium features, intelligent safety technology, and competitive pricing in a rapidly growing segment.

With pricing starting at R788 888, the E5 Apex Plus represents another significant step forward in making electric mobility more accessible to South African consumers.
