Geely Auto is accelerating its global electrification journey with the introduction of the Geely E2, a compact all-electric hatchback engineered to bring premium urban mobility within reach of a wider audience. Positioned in the entry-level EV segment but designed with a distinctly modern and sophisticated edge, the E2 reflects the brand’s ambition to make electric driving more accessible without compromising on technology, practicality or everyday usability.
For South Africa, the Geely E2 arrives as a thoughtfully specified urban companion offered in two grades, Aspire and Apex. Both variants share the same core electric architecture and efficiency-focused engineering, with differentiation centred on comfort, convenience and technology enhancements. Under the skin, the model delivers 85 kW of power, a lithium iron phosphate battery and a driving range of up to 325 km (WLTP), placing it firmly within the realities of daily city commuting and weekend flexibility. DC fast charging capability of up to 70 kW further strengthens its usability, allowing meaningful range replenishment in short stopovers.
Speaking on the model’s positioning, Jateen Daya, Geely Auto South Africa’s Head of Product, describes the E2 as a shift in thinking around accessible electrification, noting: “The E2 represents a new approach to accessible electric mobility. It delivers the space, technology, design and everyday usability expected from a sophisticated hatchback, combined with the benefits of an electric powertrain at an accessible price point. This philosophy is reflected in Geely’s brand direction, ‘Drive the wonder’.”
Visually, the E2 embraces a clean and contemporary design language that prioritises aerodynamic efficiency and youthful character. A closed grille design reinforces its electric identity, while slim LED headlamps and a sculpted front bumper give it a confident urban stance. Short overhangs and a long wheelbase enhance both its stability and interior space efficiency, while the rear design is defined by distinctive LED lighting and a wide tailgate that improves both visibility and practicality. An integrated roof spoiler completes the aerodynamic profile.
The Aspire rides on 15-inch steel wheels with aerodynamic covers, while the Apex elevates its presence with 16-inch alloy wheels, two-tone paint finishes, rear privacy glass and chrome detailing that signal its more premium positioning.
Built on a dedicated electric vehicle architecture, the E2 measures 4,135 mm in length, 1,805 mm in width and 1,580 mm in height, with a 2,650 mm wheelbase. This foundation enables a flat floor layout that improves cabin space and comfort, while also contributing to balanced weight distribution for more composed handling in urban environments.
Inside, the cabin is defined by a clean, technology-led layout anchored by a 14.6-inch infotainment touchscreen paired with an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster. The minimalist approach is balanced by functionality, with more than 30 storage compartments integrated throughout the cabin. Practicality is further enhanced by a 375-litre boot that expands to 1,320 litres when required, complemented by a 70-litre front trunk for additional storage flexibility. The Apex specification introduces a more premium finish with vegan leather upholstery, soft-touch materials and upgraded interior detailing.
Performance is delivered through an integrated 11-in-1 electric drive system that combines key powertrain components into a compact and efficient unit. Rear-wheel drive architecture contributes to a more engaging driving character, producing 150 Nm of torque and enabling acceleration from 0 to 50 km/h in 4.6 seconds, and 0 to 100 km/h in 11.5 seconds, with a top speed of 130 km/h.
The 39.4 kWh LFP battery underpins the E2’s efficiency, delivering energy consumption of 15.2 kWh per 100 km (WLTP). Charging flexibility includes AC charging from 10 to 100 percent in approximately 6.5 hours, while DC fast charging from 30 to 80 percent takes around 25 minutes. Battery pre-heating enhances charging performance in varying conditions, and Vehicle-to-Load functionality allows the vehicle to power external devices, extending its role beyond transport into mobile energy support.
Technology and connectivity are handled through Geely’s Flyme Auto Smart System, offering a responsive digital ecosystem with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth and 4G connectivity as standard. The Apex model further enhances situational awareness with a 360-degree panoramic camera system that includes a transparent chassis view for improved manoeuvring confidence in tight urban spaces.
Safety remains a central pillar of the E2, with standard equipment including ABS, ESC, six airbags, traction control, hill-start assist and tyre pressure monitoring. The Apex variant extends this with a comprehensive suite of advanced driver assistance systems, including adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, forward collision warning and intelligent high beam control.
In South Africa, the E2 Aspire is positioned as a value-driven entry into electric mobility, equipped with essentials such as 15-inch wheels, fabric upholstery, manual air conditioning, rear parking sensors with camera support, keyless entry and a four-speaker audio system. The Apex elevates the experience with enhanced comfort and technology, including alloy wheels, vegan leather seats, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, wireless charging, ambient lighting and a six-speaker audio system.
Pricing starts at R339,900 for the Aspire and R389,900 for the Apex, positioning the E2 competitively within the growing EV landscape. Ownership is reinforced through a 4-year or 150,000 km vehicle warranty, an 8-year or 200,000 km battery warranty, a 3-year or 200,000 km service plan and 5-year unlimited kilometre roadside assistance. All models include a wallbox home charger, subject to terms and Geely Finance approval.
Geely currently operates 32 dealerships across South Africa, with plans to expand to 40 by the end of 2026, signalling a broader commitment to supporting its growing electric and hybrid portfolio in the local market.
