A recent white paper published by CUPRA UK reveals that the majority of drivers see electric vehicle (EV) ownership as an inevitable future step. The survey, which served as the foundation for this report, indicates that seven in 10 people anticipate driving a fully electric car within the next 10 years.
The white paper explores the contrasting perceptions between those who already own EVs and those who have yet to make the switch. This comprehensive study surveyed 377 drivers, part of the Volkswagen Group brand customer panel, to understand the viewpoints of both EV owners and non-owners, shedding light on the key factors that divide UK drivers on this issue.
One of the standout findings from the report is the high satisfaction rate among CUPRA EV owners. A striking 94% of these drivers reported being pleased with their decision to transition to an electric vehicle. Notably, none of the surveyed CUPRA EV owners expressed a desire to revert to a petrol or diesel car.
Despite ongoing challenges with the UK’s charging infrastructure, only 5% of CUPRA EV owners were concerned about how charging impacts their daily routine, compared to 37% of non-EV owners. This stark contrast highlights the evolving perception and adaptability of EV owners regarding charging logistics.
Marcus Gossen, Director of SEAT and CUPRA UK, commented, “Our white paper sheds new light on the factors affecting drivers’ perceptions of electrification. It is clear that those who make the switch are happy they did, but that does not mean our work is done. The industry must continue to support and inform both current EV drivers and those yet to make the leap. We want to empower drivers and reassure them that sustainable mobility doesn’t mean they have to compromise. With that in mind, our report provides a fresh understanding of the differing viewpoints, offering inclusive and informed discussion on the future of mobility.”
