After the plant opening in 2009, Daimler Trucks North America is now celebrating the production anniversary of the plant in Saltillo in the North Mexican state of Coahuila: The 100,000th heavy-duty long-distance truck type Freightliner Cascadia is proof of the right location decision in favor of the truck plant in Saltillo.

The plant, which was built with an investment volume of 300 million US dollars, is part of the international production network of Daimler’s commercial vehicle subsidiary DTNA. Saltillo can accommodate an annual production volume of up to 30,000 Freightliner Cascadia units for the Mexican domestic market and exports to further countries of Latin America, the USA, and Canada.

Martin Daum, Daimler Trucks North America President and CEO: “After the first turn of the sod in the year 2007 and the plant opening in 2009, we are proud to celebrate the production milestone of the 100,000th Freightliner Cascadia truck in the Saltillo plant in November this year. Especially the dynamic efforts of our employees in Saltillo contributed to the success of our flagship trucks.” Martin Daum continued: “The Mexico manufacturing location is an integral component of the production network of DTNA in the NAFTA region and Daimler Trucks worldwide.”

The Saltillo location houses the production plant, a logistics center, an administration building and a training center on a total area of over 120,000 square meters. DTNA’s production location in northern Mexico offers decisive benefits such as the availability of raw materials, the proximity to suppliers and customers, as well as a good connection to the road and railway network. In addition to Saltillo, Santiago Tianguistenco is the second production location of Daimler Trucks North America in Mexico.

The anniversary truck was delivered to “Grupo Mon-Ro”, a specialist in national and international freight operations. With nearly 100 percent, the customer fleet consists of several hundred Freightliner vehicles.

Gerhard Gross, President and CEO of Daimler Trucks Mexico: “We are happy to deliver our anniversary vehicle to a loyal customer. We thank ‘Mon-Ro’ for their vote of convidence in our brand. Freightliner continues to be committed to satisfy the high expectations of our customers in terms of quality, reliability and total cost of ownership.”

In 2011 the trucks of the Freightliner brand with the US weight classes 6 to 8 (about 9 to 36 tons of gross vehicle weight) were sold around 86.000 times in the NAFTA region.
