Denmark, 12 August 2025 — In Norse mythology, Mjølner is the hammer of Thor — a weapon of immense power and precision. In modern engineering terms, it is now the beating heart of the Zenvo Aurora: the most powerful production V12 engine ever created, and the first to unite unrestrained performance with truly global emissions compliance.
This audacious feat is the result of a close collaboration between Zenvo Automotive and engineering powerhouse MAHLE Powertrain. Their combined expertise has given birth to a powertrain that produces an extraordinary 1,250 bhp, integrates seamlessly with a state-of-the-art hybrid system, and delivers an ear-tingling 9,800 rpm redline — all without compromising driveability.
With production of the Aurora on track for 2026, the latest episode of Zenvo’s behind-the-scenes docuseries offers an exclusive look at the engine’s development journey. From concept sketches to dyno testing, the episode pulls back the curtain on the painstaking design, packaging, and calibration process that transforms engineering ambition into on-road reality.
“Off-the-shelf would have been easier,” admits Jens Sverdrup, Chairman and CCO of Zenvo Automotive. “But that was never the point. Aurora is a no-compromise hypercar, so its heart had to be built the same way — exactly how we wanted it, with zero concessions.”
Breaking Convention to Build for the World
Designing Mjølner was not merely about achieving headline numbers. It was about doing so while meeting stringent emissions standards in every major global market — a rarity in the hypercar world. Achieving this balance required a blend of the latest propulsion technologies with tried-and-tested engineering principles, a combination MAHLE Powertrain was uniquely positioned to deliver.
The project pushed boundaries at every stage. From advanced combustion modelling to intricate thermal management solutions, every component and subsystem was scrutinised for performance, efficiency, and reliability. This approach ensures that Mjølner will not only thrill on the track but remain compliant and dependable throughout its entire service life.
A Glimpse of the Future at Monterey
Zenvo will present the Aurora to the public at Monterey Car Week in California, offering enthusiasts a rare opportunity to experience the hypercar that’s rewriting performance rules. In parallel, the ongoing YouTube docuseries chronicles each milestone, capturing the spirit of innovation and determination driving the Aurora programme.
Mjølner is more than an engine. It is a statement — a declaration that engineering limits exist only to be exceeded. As the Aurora edges closer to production, one thing is certain: the world’s most powerful V12 has arrived, and it speaks with a Danish accent.
