Mustang GT3 Makes Memorable Le Mans Debut with Podium Finish

LE MANS, FRANCE, June 18, 2024 – Ford Mustang GT3 marked its debut at the prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans with an impressive performance, securing a third-place finish in the fiercely competitive LMGT3 category. This achievement, alongside a solid fourth place, highlighted Mustang’s return to the global stage of endurance racing in its 60th anniversary year.

In a grueling race at Circuit de la Sarthe, all three Mustang GT3s showcased exceptional resilience and pace. The No. 88 car, driven by Dennis Olsen (NOR), Giorgio Roda (ITA), and Mikkel O. Pedersen (CAN), led the charge with a remarkable podium finish. Despite early challenges, Olsen’s skillful maneuvers propelled the car through the field, setting the stage for a podium contention that they maintained throughout the race.

“Our podium finish at Le Mans is a testament to the hard work and dedication of everyone involved – from our drivers to our partners at Proton Competition, M-Sport, and Multimatic Motorsports,” commented Mark Rushbrook, Global Director of Ford Performance Motorsports. “It’s an honor to achieve this milestone in Mustang’s storied history, especially in such a challenging event.”

Christian Ried, Team Principal of Proton Competition, echoed the sentiment: “To secure a podium in Mustang’s inaugural year at Le Mans and during its 60th anniversary is truly remarkable. The teamwork and preparation have paid off, and we look forward to building on this success.”

The No. 44 Mustang GT3, piloted by Chris Mies (GER), Ben Tuck (GBR), and John Hartshorne (GBR), contributed to the team’s success with a solid fourth-place finish. Mies praised the car’s reliability and performance, expressing optimism for future races.

Mikkel O. Pedersen (No. 88): “Finishing Le Mans for the first time is a significant achievement for us. The Mustang GT3 performed exceptionally well, and our collaboration with Ford Performance, Multimatic Motorsports, and Proton Competition was instrumental in our success.”

Chris Mies (No. 44): “Although we narrowly missed the podium, our performance underscores the capabilities of the Mustang GT3. We’ve made significant strides since Daytona, and I’m confident in our ability to compete for more podiums in the future.”

Ben Tuck (No. 44): “To finish in the top-five at Le Mans is a dream come true. We were competitive throughout, and I’m grateful to be part of Mustang’s legacy at such a historic event.”
