Team Ford Racing enjoyed a strong outing on this weekend’s ABSA Off Road Championship, the Eastern Cape 500. Despite the difficult conditions the team excelled with Neil Woolridge and Kenny Skjoldhammer taking second place overall in their SP Ford Ranger.
“It was a very tough day at the office,” said a delighted Woolridge at the finish. “The route was very tight and narrow. The forest stages required 100% concentration and we were careful not to put a foot wrong. In the end it paid off and we’re extremely happy to be second for the day.”
Also enjoying a strong outing were team mates Mark Ferguson and Craig West piloting the sister SP Ford Ranger. The duo, still new to the SP class, enjoyed a solid outing and was pleased to make it to the finish with no major incidents.
“The attrition rate was very high this weekend,” explained Ferguson. “We’re on a fairly steep learning curve at the moment. We learnt a lot this weekend and apart from two flat tyres, managed to steer clear of any incidents. Overall we are very pleased with our performance and we’ll be hoping to continue the trend in the coming events.”
While the two Class SP competitors enjoyed a great performance, Class E team mates Jack Peckham and Lucio Santoro had a somewhat tougher day at the office with the pair eventually retiring in the pits.

“We had some problems this weekend and unfortunately we weren’t able to get out of the pits for the final loop in time and we were time barred,” said Peckham. “We’re disappointed not to have finished and scored some valuable points but that’s racing and we’ll now be concentrating on the next event.”
Team leader Woolridge continued to sing the praises of his team; “Everyone did a great job this weekend. The conditions made it a challenging outing and the attrition rate was very high, which made everyone’s efforts all the more impressive.
