In a world where bigger is always better (just ask the ladies, or anyone from America), Ford is a company who does it best. They have a long history of making gargantuan trucks with their F-Series that are more akin to 18-wheelers than your favourite city-run-about.
In case standing 2 metres tall and stretching over nearly 6 metres in length wasn’t imposing enough, Ford recently released the most intimidating model yet; the F-150 SVT Raptor Special Edition, which adds a bit of show to match the go.
The Special Edition adds some special-ness including a unique Ruby Red (or Tuxedo black if you prefer) Metallic paint job and some nifty decals. The interior got a makeover too, upgrades including Brick Red seat accents, honeycomb highlights and some new door panels.
The Raptor sports a 6.2 litre V8 engine that produces over 300kW and 590Nm, which is enough to tear your face off while towing a small planet. No literally, I mean a small planet thanks to a towing capacity of 5 tonnes.
Since its launch, the Raptor has set the benchmark for low- and high-speed off-road performance with its destructive all-terrain tires, state of the art, industry-exclusive FOX Racing Shox dampers, skid plates and Hill Descent Control. There’s even a grille mounted camera to improve visibility when climbing over particularly difficult terrain.
The F-150 Raptor is considered the pinnacle of ‘full-size’ trucks – something the sales figures confirm. Its rugged nature make it the perfect vehicle for the outdoor enthusiast; while it manages to be refined enough for everyday use. These factors have seen Raptor’s flying off showroom floors at an alarming rate.
The introduction of the Special Edition brings some much needed exclusivity to the range; allowing select customers to set their Raptor apart from the masses, yet still enjoy all the terrain destroying capabilities of the standard model.
