PRETORIA, South Africa, 16 October 2013 – The stylish and technologically advanced Ford Fusion was revealed today at the Johannesburg International Motor Show (JIMS). With a fresh exterior design, a stylish interior, new high-efficiency Ford EcoBoost powertrains and a host of driver comfort, convenience and safety technologies on offer, the Fusion will take its position as the flagship model in the company’s portfolio when introduced in South Africa in the coming 12 months.
The Fusion benefits from the continuing evolution of Ford’s kinetic design, with subtle visual cues incorporated into key areas such as the front and rear end. The Fusion’s interior features a premium feel with a range of high quality materials.
The Fusion will make use of Ford’ acclaimed EcoBoost technology as part of a range of derivatives that will be confirmed closer to its South African introduction.
Driver assistance, comfort and convenience features abound in the Fusion, including systems for Lane Departure Warning, Driver Alert and Auto High Beam.
Fusion Design
The Fusion is a stylish, versatile saloon that offers high levels of driving enjoyment and comfort to its occupants.
Ford’s design team set out to further emphasise Ford’s kinetic design signature while incorporating new technologies such as LED lighting.
Bold graphics and proportions at the front end, including large lower trapezoidal and slim upper grilles, plus a stylish bonnet profile and integral LED day running lights further emphasise the Fusion’s premium appeal and sporty stance.
The Fusion’s sleek lines are emphasised in the side profile by a full chrome window surround, while large LED tail lamps give additional kinetic movement to the rear.
Overall the exterior design for Fusion complements its premium feel and enhanced quality while hinting strongly at the model’s sporty dynamics and performance.
Sophisticated Interior
The interior of the Fusion features a high level of quality and sophistication through meticulous attention to detail, and by employing high quality trim materials.
The centre console flows elegantly, while the door panels feature a ‘toproll’ and flush, integrated, door release mechanisms. The central overhead console features LED ambient lighting and a woven headliner adding to the ambience.
The use of high quality interior trim materials boost the overall feeling of craftsmanship and are complemented by high-class inlay foils and ‘jewel’ detailing on switches and vents in satin chrome.
A wide range of interior features are also showcased on the new Fusion. As well as the introduction of LED interior lighting, music lovers will be able to enjoy the Ford Premium Sound System option – an all-new audiophile system offering an eight-channel amplifier unit with total power output of 265 Watts, a speaker system, which includes an instrument panel-mounted centre unit and a large subwoofer located in the luggage compartment.
Dynamic Powertrains
Though the powertrain line-up for South Africa has yet to be announced, in other markets the Fusion currently features Ford’s latest high-efficiency powertrain technologies, delivering a key combination of fuel efficiency and low emissions, yet still maintaining Ford’s renowned driving enjoyment.
Ford’s ECOnetic Technologies and Ford’s PowerShift double wet-clutch transmission system are also available on the new Fusion to help ensure efficient and economical motoring. Innovations include Smart Regenerative Charging, the Ford Eco Mode driver information system and an Active Grille Shutter system. This electronically controlled device regulates the airflow through the radiator and engine compartment, reducing aerodynamic drag and benefitting engine heating characteristics to improve fuel economy and warm-up performance, particularly in cold climates.
New Technologies for Enhanced Safety and Comfort
The new Fusion range will be packed with smart features to provide customers with even higher levels of comfort and confidence.
Also extending to Fusion are many features already introduced on the latest Kuga, including Ford’s Blind Spot Information System, Speed Limiter and Rear View Camera. LED lighting technology is used for the daytime running lights and rear tail and brake lamps as well as inside the car.
