The final round of the 2007 Absa Off Road Championship, the Ford Carnival City 400 will take place on 30 November and 1 December at the Carnival City Casino east of Johannesburg. Team Ford Racing will be aiming to finish the season on high note.
Neil Woolridge and Kenny Skjoldhammer competing in the Class SP Production Vehicle category with their 4.0l Ford Ranger will want to conclude the season with a strong result. The pair has scored points in every event that they have finished.
“We’ve made a lot of progress with the car this year, unfortunately it hasn’t always gone our way,” explains Woolridge. “We’ve been in the points in every event that we’ve finished unfortunately we haven’t yet taken a victory – we’ll be hoping to rectify that situation at the final round at Carnival City.”
Brandon Harcus and Juan Mohr who joined the team at the start of the season have proved to be a competitive force within the SP class. The season marked Harcus’ first foray into the Production Vehicle category having competed on the Special Vehicle scene for many years.
“We had a very successful debut at the Nissan Dealer in March, taking a fourth place. We’ve only had one DNF during the season, so over all it’s been a very good year for us and we hope to have another good result for the final event of the year,” continued Harcus.
Jack Peckham and Lucio Santoro will be looking to clinch the Class E championship in their Ford Ranger at the Ford Carnival City 400. Peckham currently heads the Class E driver’s standings by 10 points while navigator Santoro is 10 points off his nearest rival following a bought of illness which saw Santoro unable to finish the Amathole 500.
“We’re really looking forward to the final round of the championship, tension are high and anything could still happen. However it would be great to take the title at the Ford sponsored event with all the fans in attendance,” said an optimistic Peckham.
With just one month separating the final two rounds of the season Team Ford Racing has been hard at work readying the cars. “The previous round proved to be very hard on the cars so we certainly have our work cut out for us in the lead up to the final race.
“The Carnival City event has been good to us in the past so we’ll be hoping for a strong showing. Ford is again the title sponsor of this popular event and we’d like nothing more than to give them a win and end the 2007 season off in style.”
