The countdown to South Africa’s most prestigious road safety accolade has officially begun. The Fleet Safety Awards 2025 is now open for entries, following its launch at the recent South African Association for Fleet Professionals (AFP) Colloquium. Fleet managers and organisations across the country are invited to submit their entries early for the opportunity to be recognised as leaders in road safety and sustainable fleet operations.
Now entering its fourth year, the Awards — spearheaded by MasterDrive — continue to gain traction and influence. CEO of MasterDrive, Eugene Herbert, says the Awards have evolved significantly since their inception in 2022. “Each year has brought about growth, and 2025 will be no exception. We’ve introduced exciting improvements to reflect the dynamic nature of fleet management and the critical need to balance performance with responsibility.”
Embracing Sustainability in Fleet Strategy
In a powerful move that reflects both societal shifts and industry evolution, the 2025 Fleet Safety Awards will now include two brand-new categories focused on sustainability:
- Sustainability Leadership Award
Recognises an organisation that not only maintains high safety standards but also leads the way in implementing eco-conscious practices in their fleet operations. - Sustainability Innovation Award
Celebrates organisations providing innovative products or services that enable others to meet their sustainability objectives while maintaining operational excellence.
“Modern fleet strategy must be multi-dimensional,” says Herbert. “Acknowledging the environmental impact of our operations is no longer optional — it’s essential. These new categories champion organisations making strides toward a safer, cleaner future.”
Bigger Prizes, Bigger Motivation
The total value of the awards has been boosted by an additional R50,000, bringing the total prize pool to R250,000 in cash and prizes. Alongside recognition from peers and industry leaders, winners will enjoy financial incentives that reflect the importance of their contributions to road safety and sustainability.
In a further gesture of appreciation, MasterDrive will host monthly lucky draws over the next five months, giving entrants the chance to win exclusive prizes and experiences simply by submitting their entries early.
A Record-Breaking Year on the Horizon
Following the success of 2024 — which saw over 250 entries — the organisers have set their sights on doubling that number for 2025. The goal is ambitious but well within reach, especially as the Awards continue to gain prominence as a benchmark for excellence in the fleet industry.
“We started with just over 100 entries in 2022,” says Herbert. “To grow that fivefold in four years would be an extraordinary milestone and a testament to South Africa’s growing commitment to road safety.”
