Bravo crowned the Best Car for women between R100 000 and R200 000

“Women will be forgotten if they forget to think about themselves”

“The stronger the emphasis on the difference between the sexes, the clearer the need for the specific representation of women”

Two very apt quotes by feminists dating back to the 1800s that perfectly encapsulate the WOW Women’s Car of the Year Awards. Too long the preserve of the male domain, the fairer sex are finally having their say and being heard.

And at Fiat Group Automobiles South Africa, we’re very proud that the ‘girls’ have voted for us. You see, at last night’s WOW 2008 Women’s Car of the Year Awards, the Fiat Bravo was crowned the Best Car for women between R100 000 and R200 000.

This is a noteworthy accolade given the reach of the awards and the journal they’re based on: Launched in 2004 by Associated Magazines, the Women on Wheels (WOW) supplement is the only glossy motoring supplement aimed exclusively at the affluent female market.

Today WOW reaches an estimated 1.3 million readers and is bagged annually with the July issues of South Africa’s premier magazines Cosmopolitan, Marie Claire, House and Leisure and O, The Oprah Magazine. The annual Nedbank Vehicle and Asset Finance-sponsored awards which are held to celebrate the best cars for women in seven distinct categories are decided by a panel of top female motoring experts along with online reader votes.

Commenting on the award, Craig Westray, General Manager of Marketing for Fiat Group Automobiles SA, said: “We’re ecstatic that the women of South Africa have tangibly expressed their support for our brand. Statistically* we were aware of the fact that 64,2% of all new Fiats are purchased by females, but to have this sort of recognition is just so gratifying.” *Source: Wesbank

As for the reasons why the Fiat Bravo 1.4 T-Jet Dynamic (R198 000) was selected as the Best Car for women between R100 000 and R200 000, consider this:

  • Value for money – With a recommended retail price tag of R198 000, the Bravo 1.4 T-Jet Dynamic comes with a full larder of comfort features including Radio/CD/MP3 with steering wheel controls, air conditioning, remote central locking, front & rear electric windows, leather steering/gear knob, front armrest, front foglamps and 16″ alloys. (For a small premium – less than R10 000 – you can upgrade to the 1.4 T-Jet Sport which adds even more kit in the form of stability/traction control, Sport button, sport seats and 17″ alloys to mention just a few the main product highlights.)
  • Performance – A whopping 110 kW is on tap from a 1.4-litre turbo-charged engine; that’s more than most 2.0-litres can muster up. This translates into a very brisk 0-100 km/h sprint time of 8,5 seconds.
  • Practicality – The biggest luggage capacity in its class (400 litres and 1175 litres with the rear seats folded flat) plus a useful storage unit under the passenger seat; pockets in the doors; a centre console with space for bottles, documents, maps and coins; storage compartments on the facia for keys, eyeglasses and remote controls; and a large glove compartment in front of the passenger.
  • Reduced running costs – A standard 90 000 km / 5-year service plan, service intervals of 30 000 km and an average fuel consumption figure of 7,1 litres per 100 km.
  • Safety – 5-Star EuroNCAP of course with 6 airbags, ABS and EBD all standard.
  • Styling – It’s Italian, need one say more!
