Maranello, 25 June 2025 – In a bold fusion of racing pedigree and nautical ingenuity, Ferrari has unveiled its most daring venture yet: Ferrari Hypersail – a groundbreaking 100-foot flying monohull and the Prancing Horse’s first foray into the world of competitive offshore sailing.
Much more than a yacht, Hypersail is a floating testbed for performance, sustainability, and pioneering design. It represents a seamless fusion of automotive engineering and oceanic ambition – a symbol of how Ferrari is redefining endurance beyond the track and into uncharted waters.
The Art of Flying at Sea
At the heart of the Hypersail project is an extraordinary piece of engineering: the world’s first 100-foot ocean racing monohull with a foil-integrated canting keel. Designed by renowned French naval architect Guillaume Verdier, the Hypersail will ‘fly’ across the ocean, stabilised on just three contact points: a keel-mounted foil, a rudder foil, and a pair of lateral foils working alternately depending on sailing conditions. The design is a masterclass in balance, hydrodynamics, and control – echoing the agility and responsiveness of a Ferrari Hypercar in motion.
This revolutionary architecture not only reduces drag dramatically but enables sustained high-speed sailing in a variety of offshore conditions, pushing the limits of monohull design and setting a new benchmark in competitive sailing.

A Platform for Innovation and Open Collaboration
Under the guidance of Team Principal Giovanni Soldini – celebrated for his transoceanic triumphs and deep-rooted expertise in yacht development – Hypersail is as much a vessel of innovation as it is a competitor. Ferrari’s engineers, working closely with top nautical specialists, are involved in every phase of its creation, from initial concept to sea trials scheduled for 2026.
“This is a new challenge that pushes us beyond our boundaries,” said Ferrari Chairman John Elkann. “Hypersail perfectly aligns with Ferrari’s tradition, inspired by our Hypercar that triumphed at Le Mans. It’s a pure expression of endurance – not only in performance but also in resilience and self-sufficiency.”
Indeed, the project’s ambition is matched only by its collaborative spirit. Rooted in an open innovation model, Ferrari is engaging a wider ecosystem of partners and suppliers to co-develop technologies in aerodynamics, energy efficiency, and real-time control systems. It’s an approach that’s already yielded results, with nine patents filed and six more underway – many of which are expected to impact Ferrari’s automotive portfolio in the years to come.
Automotive Technology at Sea
A signature feature of Hypersail is its flight control system – adapted from Ferrari’s advanced automotive software and engineering processes. Using real-time aerodynamic and structural analysis, the system ensures that the yacht maintains optimal lift, stability, and safety even in volatile offshore conditions. No pit stops. No external support. Just unbroken stretches of ocean and raw natural forces.
“From a nautical perspective, this yacht is innovative in every sense,” said Giovanni Soldini. “Ferrari’s expertise in system design is helping us create control technologies never seen on a boat before. The challenge is finding the equilibrium between extreme performance and unwavering reliability.”
Total Energy Autonomy
Perhaps the most radical statement Hypersail makes is in its complete commitment to renewable energy. There is no combustion engine on board. All operational power – from foil actuation to computing and communication – must be drawn from natural sources, including solar, wind, and kinetic energy harvested while underway.
Every onboard system has been designed for maximum efficiency. The energy architecture is lean, resilient, and entirely self-sustaining – an immense technical challenge, particularly given the demands of offshore racing and the yacht’s size.
This commitment to clean energy not only positions Hypersail as a standard-bearer for sustainable innovation in sailing but also underscores Ferrari’s evolving philosophy: that performance and responsibility are no longer mutually exclusive.
A Symbol of New Horizons
Ferrari Hypersail is more than a yacht. It’s a manifesto – an embodiment of Ferrari’s spirit of relentless innovation, now carried by wind and water as well as petrol and powertrains. It brings together the pinnacle of automotive and nautical excellence, and in doing so, redefines the boundaries of both.
As the Hypersail prepares to take to the water in 2026, the Prancing Horse sails into a new era – one defined not just by speed, but by foresight, collaboration, and sustainability.
The ocean is calling. And Ferrari is ready to answer.
