Monaco – MonacoCarAuctions™ is delighted to present more than 40 of Maranello’s finest automobiles at its inaugural L’AstaRossa™ sale, held in partnership with Top Marques Monaco, at the Grimaldi Forum, Monaco, on June 8th. Headlining the auction’s consignments is an exquisite Ferrari Enzo, offered directly from the private collection of two-time Formula One World Champion, Fernando Alonso.
Widely considered to be the hypercar that defined the breed, the Enzo’s bold design, legendary performance and stunning engine note made the car an instant icon. Following in the footsteps of the prized Ferrari 288 GTO, F40 and F50, the Enzo utilised a carbon fibre and Nomex honeycomb monocoque chassis and an all-new six-litre V12 engine, capable of hitting a 7,800rpm red line. Both elements drew on the technology and expertise afforded by Ferrari’s illustrious Formula One programme. Today, more than 20 years after the car was unveiled, the 3.1-second 0-100kph time and top speed in excess of 350kph still holds up against many modern performance cars. Finished in Rosso Corsa, being “Scocca n.1” (first body) as indicated in its Ferrari Classiche red book, and having covered only 4,800km from new, the Enzo is expected to achieve more than €5,000,000 on auction night.
Accompanying the Enzo across the block is a one-of-one Felber Ferrari 365 GTC/4 ‘Beach Car’ by Michelotti. Delivered new to Switzerland in 1972 to famous surgical clinic professor, Dr Frédéric Saegesser, chassis #16017 remained under his ownership until 1975, when it was purchased by Willy Felber, a Swiss car manufacturer and Ferrari retailer. Felber commissioned Michelotti of Turin to design and build a unique ‘Beach Car’ body for the car. Painted in sky blue with a denim blue interior, the car was destined for former Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad Al Thani. Chassis #16017 was never delivered to the Middle East, however, due to the region’s oil crisis. Felber and Michelotti subsequently refinished the car in metallic bronze and displayed it on the coachbuilder’s stand at the 1976 Geneva Motor Show (Estimate €650,000-1,500,000).
The L’AstaRossa™ auction catalogue also includes a timeless, alloy-bodied 1956 Ferrari 250 GT Boano. Though the car was penned by Pinin Farina, the designer and coachbuilder was unable to commit to their construction due to a lack of workshop capacity. The contract was awarded to Carrozzeria Boano, who was tasked with replicating the design in production form. Boano did so, but with one amend. The bold Pinin Farina haunch over the rear wheels was softened, which in turn gave the appearance of a lower belt and roofline over a standard 250. This exceptionally rare 250 GT Boano, finished in Azzuro Metallizzato, is one of only 14 lightweight aluminium alloy cars built by the coachbuilder, and comes with racing provenance, after competing in the 1956 Nassau Grand Prix (Estimate €1,300,000-2,000,000).
Amongst the other Ferrari models going under the auction hammer is a 2011 Ferrari 599 GTO finished in Rosso Corsa with a Grigio Titanio roof (Estimate €750,000-950,000). Bids can also be made on a unique 2017 Ferrari 488 GTB modified for use by Lapland Ice Driving (Estimate €190,000-225,000), a 1988 Ferrari 328 GTS Koenig (Estimate €475,000-700,000) and a 1964 Ferrari 330 GT2+2 that has been little used after undergoing a full restoration (Estimate €320,000-370,000).
