Honda is drawing the curtain on one of its most iconic performance models with the launch of the Civic Type R ‘Ultimate Edition’ – a meticulously crafted, ultra-exclusive version of its renowned hot hatch. Limited to just 40 units across Europe, this edition not only celebrates 28 years of performance heritage but also marks the final chapter for the Civic Type R in the region.
Finished exclusively in Championship White, the Ultimate Edition is immediately distinguishable by its bespoke red decals, tracing the bonnet and flanks in tribute to the iconic Type R badging. A painted black roof and carbon fibre detailing – including the rear wing spoiler and doorstep garnish – elevate the visual drama, making this the most visually striking Civic Type R to date.
Crafted Inside and Out
The interior carries forward the celebratory theme with carbon fibre trim on the centre console and a suite of custom lighting touches that highlight key features such as the door lining, cup holders, footwell, and under-seat area. Adding to the sense of occasion, a Type R logo projector illuminates the ground when the doors are opened, reinforcing its limited-run exclusivity.
Each buyer will also receive a bespoke gift box, featuring a numbered emblem (1–40), a carbon key ring, custom floor mats, and a tailored car cover – a commemorative package that underscores Honda’s appreciation for its loyal Type R fanbase.

A Last Hurrah for Europe
“As we say farewell to a true icon of the Honda automobile line-up in Europe, we thought it was fitting to give the Civic Type R the ultimate send-off,” said Hannah Swift, Head of European Strategy and Product at Honda Motor Europe. “The industry is changing, and our model range is evolving in accordance with European legislation. However, Type R has always been Honda’s ultimate expression of our passion for driving excitement.”
While the Ultimate Edition offers a final chance to own a collector-grade model, standard Civic Type R variants will continue to be available until European sales officially end in 2026. Of the 40 Ultimate Edition models, 10 are allocated to the UK, available on a first come, first serve basis through Honda’s Retailer network.
Nearly Three Decades of Hot Hatch History
The Civic Type R’s story began in 1997, debuting in Japan with the sixth-generation Civic. Over the years, it has evolved through five subsequent generations, continually pushing the limits of front-wheel drive performance. Its motorsport lineage is storied, with multiple front-wheel drive lap records at legendary circuits including the Nürburgring Nordschleife, Suzuka, and Spa-Francorchamps.
The model’s prowess wasn’t confined to production car benchmarks – it also proved dominant in motorsport, competing in the World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) and World Touring Car Cup (WTCR), where it consistently delivered driver and team titles.
As the final Ultimate Edition models reach eager hands, the Civic Type R bows out of Europe not with a whisper, but with a roaring tribute to its racing roots, engineering brilliance, and unshakable fan loyalty.
