Nissan’s Interstar Achieves Platinum Safety Rating; Townstar and Primastar Earn Gold
London, UK (July 15, 2024) – Nissan’s commitment to vehicle safety has been recognized in the latest round of ratings from the European New Car Assessment Programme (EuroNCAP). Nissan’s Light Commercial Vehicle (LCV) lineup, including the Townstar, Primastar, and Interstar, has achieved impressive safety ratings, with the all-new Interstar earning the top Platinum rating.
After undergoing rigorous safety tests, the Townstar and Primastar models were awarded Gold ratings, achieving notable safety assist performance scores of 78% and 69%, respectively.
The all-new Interstar, now available for pre-order in the UK, surpassed these achievements with an overall score of 84%, earning EuroNCAP’s top Platinum rating. These accolades reflect Nissan’s unwavering dedication to safety, particularly in light of EuroNCAP’s enhanced testing and assessment protocols for commercial vans introduced in 2023.
Nissan continues to prioritize safety across its lineup, focusing on the development and integration of advanced driver support technologies designed to prevent collisions or minimize their impact.
Autonomous Emergency Braking Systems
In the category assessing a vehicle’s ability to detect and alert drivers to pedestrians and other vulnerable road users, all three models excelled. The Townstar scored 26.8 out of 30, the Primastar 27.9, and the Interstar 25.6 points, earning the highest “Good” rating across the board.
EuroNCAP highlighted the Townstar’s performance in the Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) category as exemplary. The Townstar’s advanced driver assistance features, such as Intelligent Around View Monitor and Intelligent Blind Spot Warning, enable it to detect stationary or slower-moving vehicles and avoid collisions in nearly all test scenarios, demonstrating superior reaction capabilities even in complex situations.
Lane Support Systems
Lane Support Systems play a crucial role in preventing accidents caused by lane departure or head-on collisions. Nissan’s Townstar and Interstar performed admirably in this category, with scores of 13.8 and 16.3 out of 20, respectively.
These models employ lane departure warning technology to alert drivers when the vehicle is drifting out of its lane. Additionally, emergency lane keeping technology intervenes in critical situations to keep the vehicle on the road, ensuring the safety of all occupants and other road users.
Speed Assistance
Nissan has introduced advanced speed assistance technologies across its LCV range to help drivers adhere to speed limits. The Primastar, Townstar, and Interstar received solid scores in this category, with the Primastar scoring 9/15, Townstar 14.5/15, and Interstar 11.4/15.
These vehicles utilize digital mapping and camera technologies to determine local speed limits and automatically adjust the speed limiter, ensuring drivers remain within safe speed limits at all times.

Occupant Status Monitoring
Recognizing the unpredictability of drivers, Nissan has integrated crucial occupant status monitoring features to enhance vehicle safety. These include seatbelt reminders and attention assist technology, which help prevent accidents and provide peace of mind. EuroNCAP awarded the Interstar and Primastar full marks in this category (15/15), with the Townstar scoring 10/15.
Nissan’s Commitment to Safety
Andrew Limbert, Light Commercial Vehicle (LCV) Manager, stated: “The outstanding performances across our Light Commercial Vehicle range demonstrate our clear commitment to improving passenger and road safety. Nissan leads the way with advanced technologies that act as a second pair of eyes, identifying potential dangers and helping drivers avoid accidents. EuroNCAP’s thorough testing and rating program is vital for consumers to understand the various safety technologies we have introduced. It’s great to see our efforts recognized through these ratings.”
EuroNCAP’s new criteria for Commercial Van Ratings emphasize advanced driver assistance systems and the protection of vulnerable road users, including pedestrian safety at night, cyclist protection, and a new van-to-car crash scenario.
Reaffirming Nissan’s dedication to quality and assurance, every Nissan LCV is covered by an industry-leading 5-Year or 160,000km warranty. This comprehensive warranty includes bumper-to-bumper protection, paintwork guarantee, genuine parts and accessories, and roadside assistance, providing extra peace of mind.
