Mercedes-Benz introduces the refined GLS and Mercedes‑Maybach GLS 600 4MATIC, following the recent update of the GLE and GLE Coupé. These flagship SUVs boast enhancements across design, technology, and equipment, significantly elevating their comfort, connectivity, and ambiance.
Refined Design and Enhanced Off-Road Capability
The new Mercedes-Benz GLS stands out with its striking radiator grille featuring four louvres in Silver Shadow, alongside a more pronounced bumper with integrated air inlet grilles and a high-gloss black surround. The vehicle’s large simulated underguard is revamped, and the rear lights now display three horizontal blocks, adding to its distinct look. A new 20-inch multi-spoke light-alloy wheel design in Himalayas grey enhances its aesthetic appeal.
The GLS retains its seven-seater configuration, updating its interior with new trim finishes, including the MANUFAKTUR glossy black flowing lines piano lacquer. This finish, once exclusive to the Mercedes‑Maybach GLS 600 4MATIC, is now available across the GLS range.
For off-road enthusiasts, the revised Off-Road Engineering package includes an underride guard and an additional 30 millimeters of ground clearance, tailored for light to moderate off-road challenges.

Next-Generation MBUX for Immersive Integration
The MBUX infotainment system sees an upgrade with new display designs, offering three styles (classic, sporty, discreet) and modes (Navigation, Assistance, Service) for personalized driving experiences. The system’s ambient lighting compatibility creates a captivating interior atmosphere, while the “transparent bonnet” function, part of the Off-Road Mode, uses the 360-degree camera to display virtual views under the vehicle, aiding in obstacle navigation.
The Mercedes-Maybach GLS: Luxurious Refinements
The Mercedes-Maybach GLS showcases its luxury with a distinguished radiator grille featuring vertical chrome bars and “Maybach” lettering. It introduces new air inlet grilles with a Maybach pattern, a 23‑inch forged wheel design, and ambient lighting that projects the Mercedes‑Maybach pattern.
Interior upgrades include seat covers with high-quality diamond-pattern quilting and specific perforations, highlighting its luxurious essence.
Innovative Features and Personalization Options
The GLS and Mercedes-Maybach GLS models now offer new paint finishes, the latest steering wheel generation with touch controls, and voice assistant activation without the keyword “Hey Mercedes.” Rear passengers can enjoy the MBUX Multi-Seat Entertainment system, with up to three touchscreens, and new USB ports with 100 W output enhance connectivity and convenience.
Mark Raine, co-CEO of Mercedes-Benz South Africa, describes these updates as enhancing the iconic luxury and state-of-the-art craftsmanship of the GLS models, affirming their status as top-tier luxury SUVs. Alex Boavida, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at MBSA, emphasizes the refreshed models’ blend of luxury, technology, and performance, offering an unmatched driving and passenger experience in the luxury SUV segment.
