Mercedes-AMG has pulled the wraps off its latest plug-in hybrid performance saloon: the E 53 HYBRID 4MATIC+. This model is more than just an evolution—it’s a striking synthesis of electrified efficiency, dynamic driving capability and signature AMG performance. With a potent hybrid powertrain delivering up to 450 kW and a fully electric range exceeding 100 kilometres, the E 53 HYBRID is engineered for those who demand uncompromising performance without sacrificing everyday usability.
A Hybrid Heart with a Racing Soul
At the core of the new E 53 HYBRID 4MATIC+ lies a finely tuned amalgamation of combustion and electric prowess. The electrified powertrain combines AMG’s proven 3.0-litre turbocharged in-line six-cylinder engine with a 120 kW permanently excited synchronous electric motor. This pairing yields a formidable 430 kW system output—or up to 450 kW with the RACE START function—and a combined torque of 750 Nm.
The numbers are as thrilling as they are telling: 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds and an electronically limited top speed of 280 km/h. Up to 140 km/h can be achieved in purely electric mode, making short commutes and urban drives a silent, emission-free experience.
The electric motor, cleverly integrated into the AMG SPEEDSHIFT TCT 9G transmission, ensures immediate response and outstanding torque delivery from standstill. A 400-volt, 28.6 kWh lithium-ion battery supports up to 21.22 kWh of usable energy, allowing for extended electric driving without compromising performance.

Charging Convenience Meets Daily Practicality
Charging flexibility is a cornerstone of the E 53 HYBRID’s design. The standard 11 kW AC onboard charger allows convenient home or workplace charging, while an optional 60 kW DC fast charger reduces downtime dramatically, replenishing the battery from 10% to 80% in around 20 minutes.
Intelligent energy recuperation of up to 120 kW, including a “one-pedal” driving mode, ensures seamless efficiency. The DAuto mode intuitively adjusts recuperation strength based on driving conditions, while manual control is possible via paddle shifters.
Precision Engineering Beneath the Surface
Every facet of the E 53 HYBRID 4MATIC+ has been re-engineered to accommodate and elevate its hybrid heart. Reinforced body structures with additional strut braces and stiffening measures provide heightened rigidity, while bespoke cooling systems—like the new twin-scroll turbocharger with higher boost pressure—keep temperatures in check under spirited driving.
The newly developed AMG RIDE CONTROL suspension, with adaptive damping and increased track width at the front, balances everyday comfort with razor-sharp responsiveness. Variable damping in three settings—Comfort, Sport, and Sport+—ensures the driver can tailor the ride to match mood and road.
Equally impressive is the standard rear-axle steering, offering agility at low speeds and composure at high speeds, with a toe angle range from -2.5 to +0.7 degrees. The AMG high-performance braking system with an electromechanical brake booster smartly blends hydraulic braking with regenerative deceleration.
Exterior Expression of Power
Visually, the E 53 HYBRID makes no secret of its performance pedigree. AMG’s vertical-slatted radiator grille is now illuminated as standard, flanked by bold air intakes and a commanding front apron with the hallmark A-wing design. Flared fenders, AMG side skirts and flush-fitting light-alloy wheels—ranging from 19 to 21 inches—underscore its athletic stance.
At the rear, horizontal LED taillights connected by a continuous light band and a functional diffuser complete the look, while twin round tailpipes hint at the power within. Subtle hybrid badging denotes the electrified powertrain.
A Cockpit for the Connected Driver
Inside, the E 53 HYBRID blends digital sophistication with AMG’s motorsport heritage. The optional MBUX Superscreen with a dedicated passenger display brings hybrid-specific graphics, charging status, and AMG TRACK PACE telemetry to the forefront. As standard, the cockpit features AMG sports seats trimmed in ARTICO/MICROCUT with red contrast stitching, and a performance steering wheel clad in Nappa leather with integrated AMG buttons.
Hybrid-exclusive functions, such as “Electric” and “Battery Hold” driving modes, give the driver precise control over energy usage and efficiency. Whether gliding silently through city streets or unleashing the full might of the hybrid system, the E 53 adapts effortlessly.
