London, UK – 21 May 2025 – A name synonymous with charm, simplicity and urban savvy is making a powerful return – and this time, it’s electric. Nissan has officially unveiled the all-new, sixth-generation MICRA, a fully electric reinvention of the much-loved compact that has been a staple of European roads for over 40 years. Set to go on sale in late 2025, the new MICRA doesn’t just carry forward its heritage – it redefines it with bold design, modern technology, and a pure EV powertrain.
With its launch, the MICRA leads the charge in Nissan’s European electrification strategy, which will see four new EVs introduced by 2027. The MICRA is the first in line, followed by electric iterations of the Nissan LEAF, JUKE, and a new A-segment model, alongside the evolution of Nissan’s unique e-Power technology – all forming part of the brand’s push for a fully electric future in Europe.
Design with Personality, Purpose and Plenty of Presence
Styled at Nissan Design Europe in London, the sixth-generation MICRA arrives with a fresh identity. It’s confident and composed – not only in its SUV-inspired posture but in the way it blends playfulness with design restraint. Its pronounced wheel arches, deep-set lower lip, and sweeping body contours give it a low-slung, athletic stance that radiates intent. Yet, there’s lightness to its lines – an “ice cream scoop” indent along the side panels adds a whimsical flair that speaks to the MICRA’s heritage of everyday accessibility with a twist of individuality.
Signature headlamps – subtly angled and animated with a choreographed “welcome wink” – greet drivers with personality, while the taillights echo this attention to detail with an elegantly minimal circular LED design. A range of 14 exterior colour combinations – from subtle silvers to striking two-tone finishes – ensures the new MICRA appeals to both the understated and the expressive driver alike.
Crafted for Europe, Inspired by Japan
Step inside and the MICRA continues to impress with its clean, modern layout and a clear homage to its Japanese roots. Subtle design elements such as a moulded Mount Fuji silhouette tucked into the front console storage reveal a thoughtful blend of tradition and tech.
Two crisp 10.1” screens – one behind the wheel for driver info and one centrally positioned for navigation, media and connectivity – anchor a dashboard designed around clarity and ease of use. The display is slightly canted toward the driver for intuitive interaction, reinforcing a cockpit-like feel without overwhelming the senses.
Ambient lighting in 48 colours, three distinct upholstery options – Modern, Audacious, and Chill – and tactile materials elevate the compact cabin into something altogether more premium. The focus is on personalisation, ensuring that life on board is as expressive as the exterior design.
Compact Yet Capable: Built for the Urban Jungle
Measuring just under four metres in length, the new MICRA is purpose-built for tight European streets. But thanks to its extended 2.54m wheelbase and clever packaging, space inside is anything but compromised. All models are five-door, making entry and exit seamless for passengers, while the 326-litre boot – expandable to 1106 litres with split rear seats – ensures practicality isn’t sacrificed for style.
The use of soft-touch materials throughout the cabin and exceptional seat ergonomics further enhance comfort, making the MICRA a convincing choice not just for city commuters, but for longer journeys too.

Electric Where It Counts: Two Battery Options, Up to 253 Miles of Range
Making its full transition to electric, the new MICRA is available in two battery sizes: a 40kWh unit offering up to 192 miles of range, and a 52kWh battery delivering a best-in-class 253 miles (WLTP). Both come equipped with advanced thermal management systems, battery heating and cooling, and rapid charging capability – up to 100kW DC, allowing a 15%–80% top-up in just 30 minutes.
Nissan has also equipped the MICRA with V2L (Vehicle-to-Load) functionality, enabling drivers to power external devices directly from the car. Whether it’s an electric pump for a day at the beach or a laptop charger at a remote café, the MICRA becomes more than transport – it’s a power source for modern living.
Responsive, Engaging, and Fun to Drive
Despite its visual solidity, the MICRA is impressively light, tipping the scales at just 1400kg (1524kg for the larger battery). Combined with its low-slung battery placement on the AmpR EV platform, this yields agile handling, crisp cornering and a genuinely engaging drive.
Its dynamic personality is backed by adaptive driving modes – Comfort, Eco, Sport and Perso – each altering throttle response, torque delivery, steering feel, ambient lighting and even screen visuals. Whether you’re gliding through traffic or taking the scenic route, MICRA adapts to match your mood.
And with up to 110kW of power and 245Nm of torque available on the 52kWh model, it’s more than quick enough to be fun – without sacrificing efficiency.
A New Chapter Begins
The MICRA has always been a car for real people living real lives – students, first-time buyers, commuters and city-dwellers who need style, reliability and practicality in equal measure. Now, as it embraces a fully electric future, the sixth-generation MICRA enhances everything that made it special with zero-emission performance, future-focused tech, and a confident new identity.
Giovanny Arroba, Vice President of Nissan Design Europe, put it best:
“We’ve celebrated all the values that have historically made MICRA so popular – and opened a new chapter as an EV. This is a car that’s simple, playful, and deeply considered in every detail. MICRA is back – and it’s better than ever.”
