In a bold statement of intent, Elddis Transport has once again demonstrated its unwavering commitment to cutting-edge innovation with the delivery of the North East’s first Mercedes-Benz Actros L ProCabin. The new truck, the first of eight to join the Consett-based haulier’s fleet, marks another milestone in the company’s longstanding partnership with Bell Truck and Van and underscores its role as a pioneering force in British logistics.
With its unmistakable ‘YE11 OWT’ number plate – a nod to its signature yellow livery – the first Actros L 2548 ProCabin is already turning heads. Its futuristic styling has sparked conversation across the industry, garnering over 320,000 views on social media before even touching tarmac. But for Elddis Executive Chairman Nigel Cook, this is no vanity project.
“The Actros L ProCabin has been described as a ‘Marmite’ truck, but we love it,” Cook said. “It’s different – and that’s what state-of-the-art often is. Behind the striking looks lies the same dependable Mercedes-Benz engineering we’ve trusted for years.”
Efficiency Meets Elegance
The ProCabin’s distinctive design, defined by its ultra-smooth front panel, is more than just a dramatic aesthetic shift. It represents a tangible leap in aerodynamic efficiency, offering fuel savings of up to three percent – a significant gain in an industry where every drop of diesel counts.
Under the sculpted bonnet lies the proven muscle of the third-generation OM 471 engine: a 12.8-litre in-line six-cylinder unit producing 350 kW (476 hp). This powerplant ensures that while the ProCabin may look different, it performs with the familiar confidence and capability expected of the Actros nameplate.
Inside, the Big ProCabin specification offers a premium driver experience. With top-tier bunks, heated seats, built-in fridges, ambient lighting, and additional USB-C ports, it sets a new standard for driver comfort and convenience. This is more than just a truck – it’s a home-from-home for the long-haul professional.

Technology That Protects and Performs
Mercedes-Benz has packed the Actros L ProCabin with an array of class-leading safety systems. The latest sixth-generation Active Brake Assist, Active Sideguard Assist, and Front Guard Assist ensure the truck not only meets but exceeds the most stringent General Safety Regulations.
Complementing these are predictive technologies designed to optimise both safety and performance. Predictive Powertrain Control helps drivers get the most from every gear shift, while My TruckPoint, Mercedes-Benz’s over-the-air platform, offers seamless digital support from cab to cloud.
A Legacy of Innovation and Loyalty
Elddis Transport’s relationship with the Actros is far from new. A steadfast supporter since the model’s inception, the company has consistently embraced the latest Mercedes-Benz advancements. This tradition of early adoption reflects Elddis’s long-held belief in the value of innovation – a belief rooted in a family history that dates back to the late 1800s.
From humble beginnings with a horse and cart, through the heavy haulage era of Siddle C. Cook in the 1950s and ’60s, to the founding of the present-day business by Geoffrey Cook, Elddis remains firmly rooted in its family values. Today, under Nigel Cook’s leadership, it operates a fleet of more than 160 trucks – the vast majority of which proudly bear the three-pointed star.
Built on Partnership
Elddis’s deep ties with Bell Truck and Van have been instrumental in ensuring seamless fleet operations. Bell even runs a dedicated vehicle maintenance unit at the Elddis headquarters, overseeing the upkeep of the operator’s Actros tractors with an attention to detail that reflects the strength of their partnership.
“We’ve been very well served over the years by our Mercedes-Benz trucks, while the support we’ve received from Bells has been first class,” Mr Cook added.
Setting the Pace
The yellow-liveried ProCabin’s debut came at a fittingly high-profile venue – Silverstone Circuit – for the Transport Association’s 70th anniversary celebration. From there, it received a bespoke air management kit tailored to Elddis’s high-cube trailers, ensuring peak aerodynamic performance before entering full operational service.
As the logistics sector continues to evolve, Elddis Transport remains at the forefront – not only by adopting the latest technology but by doing so with the assurance that form never comes at the expense of function. In the Actros L ProCabin, the company has found a machine that mirrors its own values: bold, reliable, and built for the future.
