Toyota Motor Corporation, Subaru Corporation, and Mazda Motor Corporation have each made a steadfast commitment to developing advanced engines specifically designed for electrification and the quest for carbon neutrality. These pioneering engines are engineered to seamlessly integrate with motors, batteries, and other electric drive units, offering a compact yet powerful solution that not only transforms vehicle packaging but also ensures compatibility with a range of carbon-neutral (CN) fuels.

Understanding the diverse lifestyles and preferences of their customers, Toyota, Subaru, and Mazda have developed engines that reflect their unique brand identities while catering to specific consumer needs. This customer-centric approach has driven each company to create signature engines that enhance both performance and environmental sustainability.

In their mission to decarbonize, these automakers have identified carbon as the primary adversary and have passionately pursued innovative solutions. By competing in extreme conditions such as racing, they have broadened their powertrain and fuel options, experimenting with vehicles powered by liquid hydrogen and CN fuels.

Driving Towards Carbon Neutrality

“To offer our customers diverse pathways to achieve carbon neutrality, we must embrace the challenge of evolving our engines to align with future energy landscapes. Through friendly competition, we will refine our engine technologies,” stated Koji Sato, President and CEO of Toyota Motor Corporation.

This collaborative effort has clarified the critical role future engines will play in achieving carbon neutrality. The next generation of engines aims not only to enhance standalone performance but also to optimize integration with electric drive units, leveraging the benefits of each component.

These new engines promise to be highly efficient and powerful while revolutionizing vehicle design with their compact size. Smaller engines will enable lower vehicle hoods, enhancing aerodynamic performance and fuel efficiency. Additionally, these engines will meet stringent emissions regulations by shifting away from fossil fuels and embracing alternatives like e-fuel (synthetic fuel), biofuels, and liquid hydrogen.

Toyota, Subaru, and Mazda are united in their dedication to achieving carbon neutrality through a multi-faceted approach. Together with like-minded partners who share their passion and expertise, they are committed to shaping the future of Japan’s automotive industry.
