Two years after making waves at Auto Shanghai, OMODA & JAECOO are back with a renewed mission and a fresh fleet of electrified innovations. The 2025 edition of the biennial automotive showcase sees the dynamic duo unveil their latest models—including the OMODA C5 HEV, the advanced C7 SHS, and the sleek all-electric JAECOO J5 BEV—under the rallying cry of “Born Global, Born NEV.” It’s a statement of purpose and progress, firmly placing the brands at the forefront of next-generation mobility.
The Global NEV Matrix: More Than Just Buzzwords
For OMODA & JAECOO, 2025 is not merely another model year—it marks a pivotal chapter in their strategic rollout of a global New Energy Vehicle (NEV) matrix. Designed to meet the rising demand for hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and electric models, this vision will see five new Super Hybrid System (SHS) vehicles launched over the next few months. It’s a bold move that aligns with rapidly evolving consumer expectations, especially in markets hungry for intelligent, efficient alternatives.
At the heart of this global push are two cornerstone models: the OMODA C7 PHEV and JAECOO J7 SHS. Both are expected to land on South African roads later this year, heralding a significant leap in the local market’s adoption of electrified motoring. Their arrival signals not just product expansion, but a broader commitment to environmentally conscious performance that does not compromise on power or range.

South Africa: A Rising Star in the Electrification Strategy
Locally, the momentum is undeniable. With just three models currently available, OMODA & JAECOO have rapidly established themselves as one of South Africa’s top-selling passenger vehicle brands. In a single recent sales period, 806 vehicles were delivered, with the versatile C5 accounting for 559 of those units. It’s a performance that speaks volumes about local appetite for the brand’s design, quality, and pricing proposition.
And the NEV shift is already well underway. In the first quarter of 2025 alone, the automaker reported an astonishing 370% quarter-on-quarter growth in NEV sales. As hybrid and electric models gain traction, OMODA & JAECOO predict these vehicles will represent over half of their global sales volume by year-end—a feat that would solidify their position as the world’s fastest-growing hybrid vehicle brand.
Performance Meets Precision: The J7 SHS and Its Market Impact
The JAECOO J7 SHS is already proving to be a game-changer in international markets. In Spain, the model cracked the top three for plug-in hybrid sales during its debut month, capturing 7% of the national PHEV market. Across the channel in the UK, OMODA & JAECOO are now the fastest-growing car brands, thanks in large part to the J7’s success.
When the J7 SHS lands in South Africa, it will bring with it a potent blend of performance and sustainability. Armed with a 1.5-litre petrol engine paired to an electric motor, the powertrain delivers a combined 255 kW and 525 N.m of torque. With a battery capacity of 18.3 kWh, the SUV can travel up to 90 km in electric-only mode, and offers a total range of approximately 1,200 km—making it an ideal partner for long-haul adventures or daily urban commutes.
Looking Ahead: A Smart Mobility Future for Mzansi
“As we return to Auto Shanghai with a bold new lineup, we’re thrilled to share a glimpse of the electrified future OMODA & JAECOO are driving toward,” said Shannon Gahagan, Brand and Marketing Manager for OMODA & JAECOO South Africa. “Our newest models reflect not just cutting-edge technology, but a deep understanding of what the modern motorist wants. South Africa remains a dynamic and growing part of our journey. With the arrival of our latest Super Hybrid and plug-in models, we’re setting the stage for a new era of intelligent mobility in Mzansi.”
The road ahead is charged—literally and figuratively—for OMODA & JAECOO. As the brand expands into 19 new countries and grows its network to cover more than 60 regions, all eyes will be on how this ambitious vision translates into local success stories. One thing is certain: for those seeking electrified elegance without compromise, the next chapter is already in motion.
