It’s every South African rugby player’s dream to break into the 1st team of one of the biggest franchises and someday represent the Springboks. But donning the green and gold jersey is the destination of an arduous journey that starts at a very young age. Schoolboy rugby is the coliseum where young gladiators must hone their skills, test their raw talent against the best, and make a name for themselves.

“South African schoolboy rugby is the envy of many. We’ve been blessed with an endless tapestry of talented athletes that eat, sleep and breathe rugby, especially in the Free State. It’s important that we help put these promising young players on the map and support their development.” – Leon Theron, SVP Sales & Marketing – Toyota South Africa Motors

The Toyota Cheetahs established the Toyota Cheetahs Academy in January 2017 and since its inception, they have seen over 31 Academy players receive contracts for the Toyota Cheetahs franchise rugby team.

“The Toyota Cheetahs have a long track record of helping young players realise their raw potential while playing an exciting brand of rugby. The likes of Ox Nché, Trevor Nyakane, and Jasper Wiese have gone on to become Springbok mainstays. The main objective of the Toyota Cheetahs Academy is to provide even more raw, homegrown, talent for the franchise team and coaching staff to work their magic on. – Leon Theron

Toyota South Africa Motors [TSAM] is launching a social media campaign, showcasing the talents of the current crop of promising players in the academy. Current 1st team players will take on the young guns in a series of position-related challenges. The battle between the old school and the new continues with tests of general rugby skills.

The campaign will also shed some light on what it takes to make it, through interviews with players who established themselves in the Toyota Cheetahs’ 1st team and went on to play test match rugby.

Follow TSAM and the Toyota Cheetahs’ social media channels to keep up with all the exciting rugby action.
