AMSTERDAM, September 18, 2024 — In an era where the automotive industry grapples with ever-evolving demands, Stellantis stands at the forefront of manufacturing innovation. The company’s ninth annual Factory Booster Day, held at the historic Mirafiori Complex in Turin, Italy, serves as a pivotal platform for collaboration between Stellantis, suppliers, and startups. This year, over 60 partners presented 93 groundbreaking innovations, all aimed at enhancing production processes while minimizing environmental impact.

A Commitment to Excellence
Stellantis is committed to leveraging its workforce’s talents, ensuring product quality, and improving efficiency. The Factory Booster Day embodies this ethos, showcasing the Open Challenge process. This initiative invites plant leaders to solicit innovative solutions that can be integrated into Stellantis’ global manufacturing framework. Over the past three years, the Stellantis manufacturing team has reviewed more than 300 proposals, affirming the importance of partnership in driving continuous improvement.

“Our collaboration with manufacturing partners has yielded tangible results,” stated Arnaud Deboeuf, Stellantis Chief Manufacturing Officer. “Since 2021, we’ve achieved an 11% reduction in transformation costs, a 23% decrease in energy consumption, and a 40% drop in quality issues.” This impressive track record underscores Stellantis’ commitment to producing vehicles that embody the emotional and quality standards synonymous with its iconic brands.

Showcasing Innovations
The innovations presented at this year’s Factory Booster Day are not mere concepts; they represent real advancements that have already begun transforming Stellantis’ manufacturing landscape. Highlights include:

  1. Cloud-Based Digital Twins: Utilizing Autodesk Construction Cloud, Stellantis has integrated a digital twin approach into its facilities. This platform allows simultaneous sharing and simulation of construction layouts, improving collaboration with suppliers and streamlining data aggregation. Initially implemented at the Windsor Assembly Plant, the success of this technology has prompted its expansion to the Sterling Heights Assembly Plant in Michigan.
  2. AI-Enabled Robot Guidance: The GuideNow innovation, developed in collaboration with the French startup Inbolt, employs a 3D vision system that enables robots to adjust their operations in real time. This cutting-edge technology enhances assembly quality while significantly reducing lead times in powertrain installation.
  3. Autonomous Mobility Solutions: Norwegian robotics startup wheel.me introduced a revolutionary system that transforms standard carts into autonomous mobile robots (AMRs). By automating internal logistics, Stellantis can enhance efficiency and safety while achieving considerable cost savings without disrupting existing workflows.

These innovations align seamlessly with Stellantis’ broader sustainability goals outlined in its Dare Forward 2030 strategic plan. The company aims to become carbon net-zero by 2038, with a commitment to reducing its manufacturing carbon footprint by over 20% since 2021.

The Path Forward
Stellantis is not merely reacting to industry trends; it is actively shaping the future of automotive manufacturing. By embracing a culture of collaboration and innovation, the company aims to meet its ambitious targets: reducing production costs by 40% by 2030 and achieving the highest standards in product quality through optimized defect detection.

As Stellantis continues to harness the power of artificial intelligence, digital solutions, and advanced robotics, it solidifies its position as a leader in the automotive sector. The Factory Booster Day is not just a showcase of innovation; it is a testament to Stellantis’ commitment to excellence, sustainability, and the relentless pursuit of improvement in the global manufacturing landscape.
