Johannesburg, 3 October 2024 – In a significant move to uplift South African youth, Volkswagen has announced its partnership with soccer legend and former national captain, Lucas Radebe. This collaboration centers around the VW Train 4 Life programme, a visionary initiative designed to empower young girls through football and essential life skills education.

Lucas Radebe, an iconic figure in South African sports, has accepted the role of brand ambassador for Volkswagen, a testament to his commitment to social change and youth empowerment. As part of this initiative, Radebe will actively mentor the next generation of female leaders, furthering Volkswagen’s mission to cultivate talent and foster personal growth within local communities.

“I am incredibly honoured to be part of the Volkswagen family and to support the brand’s youth empowerment initiatives,” expressed Radebe. “My passion for empowering youth drives my involvement, and through the VW Train 4 Life programme and other initiatives, we are shaping strong, confident future athletes who can make a real impact in their respective communities.”

Volkswagen’s commitment to social responsibility is exemplified by its dedication to creating opportunities that resonate deeply within South Africa. Bridget Harpur, Volkswagen’s Head of Marketing, highlighted the synergy between Radebe’s values and the brand’s core mission: “We are delighted to welcome Lucas Radebe into the Volkswagen family as our brand ambassador. His values of leadership, resilience, empowerment, and service align perfectly with Volkswagen’s mission to ‘Move People Forward’ and our goal of supporting our communities ‘Beyond the Drive’.”

This partnership is not merely a branding exercise; it represents a concrete step towards social impact. Radebe’s engagement with the VW Train 4 Life programme aims to equip young women with the confidence and skills necessary to thrive, both on and off the field. The initiative underscores the importance of sports as a vehicle for personal and communal development, creating pathways for young girls to explore their potential in a supportive environment.

In a symbolic gesture marking the beginning of this transformative journey, Radebe has taken delivery of a Volkswagen Tiguan. This vehicle serves as a powerful emblem of the partnership, representing the drive for change and the potential for greatness that lies ahead.

“As Volkswagen partners with Lucas Radebe, we reaffirm our commitment to South Africa’s youth empowerment and creating opportunities with meaningful impact,” Harpur concluded.

As this collaboration unfolds, it promises to not only inspire young athletes but also galvanize communities across South Africa, demonstrating that with the right support and guidance, the youth can achieve extraordinary things. Through initiatives like VW Train 4 Life, Volkswagen is making a substantial investment in the future of South Africa, driving change and fostering a generation poised to lead and inspire.
