The annual Volvo Trucks and Volvo Bus & Coach Training Awards ceremony was held this year in the East Midlands at the Donington Park Conference Centre, which is located close to the paddock at the famous race circuit.
The prestigious ‘Jim Keyden’ Award for the ‘Graduating Apprentice of the Year 2012’ was won by Sam Archer from Thomas Hardie Commercials, Preston.
As Sam was unable to attend the graduation event, the award was collected on his behalf by Thomas Hardie Commercials’ Preston Depot Manager Neil Crook.
Speaking at the Awards ceremony, Göran Nyberg said that recognising and celebrating skills and competencies is a very important part of Volvo’s journey to become The Customer Company, saying: “The people graduating today are a vital part of our frontline in maintaining high levels of customer satisfaction. They are the people with the power to deliver ‘right first time’ and help keep our customer’s trucks, buses and coaches on the road. We also recognise that our Technicians are ambassadors for the Volvo brand.”
“It’s a tough course and we are very proud of the fact that 545 Volvo Apprentices have graduated since the programme began. It’s a proud day for everyone here today,” he added.
The event was attended by parents, family and friends of the 34 graduating apprentices who stepped up to receive their certificates from Volvo Trucks Managing Director Göran Nyberg.
In addition, four Master Technicians, five Frontline Bus & Coach Technicians, nine HNC graduates and seven ‘Train to Gain’ graduates all proudly accepted their certificates from Göran Nyberg and representatives from Stephenson College, Coalville in Leicestershire.
Three more special awards were also made. The two Outstanding Academic Achiever Awards were presented to Joseph Andrew, Technician from Volvo Truck and Bus Centre North & Scotland and Dean O’ Callaghan who is a Parts Technician from Volvo Truck and Bus Centre London. Most Improved Student went to Ross Oakes from Volvo Truck and Bus Centre East Anglia.
