Redline Racing star dominates double-header at challenging Scottish track

  • Runaway points leader shows no signs of letting up as he takes his ninth and tenth wins of a sensational season
  • Michael Meadows picks up two podiums with team-mate James Sutton producing two impressive drives to earn the ‘Driver of the Weekend’ accolade
  • Redline Racing’s Jordan Witt wins both Pro-Am1 races to regain class lead
  • G-Cat Racing’s Thomas Jennings and Juta Racing’s Nerijus Dagilis clinch victory in the Pro-Am2 category

Race One

Porsche Carrera Cup GB points leader Dan Cammish (Leeds) notched his ninth win of a remarkable season with another exceptional drive. The 26-year-old Redline Racing driver, who started second on the grid, made light work of the notoriously challenging 1.3 mile ccircuit to finish two seconds ahead of Samsung SUHD TV Racing team-mates Michael Meadows and James Sutton.

Cammish was forced to bide his time in the opening third of the race as Team Parker Racing’s pole-sitter Josh Webster (Stowmarket) got off to a great start. However when the defending champion and Porsche Carrera Cup GB Scholar span out at the chicane, the Yorkshireman pounced. It was then a case of managing the gap to the two former double champions, Meadows and Sutton, who were embroiled in a battle of their own.

“That race was absolutely mega,” Cammish said. “Sometimes you get out the car and you’re happy and other times you get out and you’re ecstatic and this falls under the latter. I thought this would be the hardest circuit for me so to put a disappointing Friday behind me and pull it out of the bag on Saturday and in this race is awesome. I was literally on the edge out there. I was never going to race Josh for the win and would have happily sat in second. Therefore I’m really happy as it’s a great boost for the team.”

It was the ninth podium of the season for runner-up Meadows who looked at ease at the wheel of his six-gear rear-engined Porsche, although the Oxford-born racer was closely matched by the highly experienced James Sutton (London). There were also strong results for former BTCC driver Stephen Jelley (Leicester) and Brookspeed’s Jayde Kruger who finished in fourth and fifth respectively.

In the Pro-Am1 category, Redline Racing’s Jordan Witt (Nantwich) finished more than six seconds ahead of nearest class rival Mark Cole (Parr Motorsport) with fellow title contender Ignas Gelzinis having to settle for third. Witt was naturally delighted with the result: “It’s definitely massive to get this result. Ignas finished third so to take some points away from him is important. I feel like it’s slowly starting to play into my hands. It was a tricky start with a lot of Pros around me but I just stayed focused on the job in hand.”

There were also smiles in the G-Cat Racing camp as Thomas Jennings produced a marvellous display to take his maiden Pro-Am2 victory. It was a hard-fought win with Juta Racing duo Nerijus Dagilis and Tautvydas Barstys applying intense pressure behind. “I’m absolutely delighted with the result,” Jennings stated. “It was really slippery at the start of the race but once I took the lead at the hairpin, I just concentrated on racing my race and letting the Pros through in the smoothest fashion. It was really good race and hopefully the first of many wins.”

Race Two

Pole-sitter Dan Cammish (Redline Racing) took a lights-to-flag victory in the second race of the weekend to make it six consecutive Porsche Carrera Cup GB wins. The former Formula Ford champion proved utterly dominant and never looked like relinquishing the lead on the way to extending his overall points lead.

His double victory means that he has not finished outside the top two all season and looks to be edging ever closer to a resounding Championship win. Although it is still mathematically possible it seems increasingly unlikely that anyone will be able to catch the 26-year-old, especially if he continues his exceptionally strong run of results.

“I was very emotional after that race,” Cammish said. “It was obviously great to win but I felt in control there as I had the speed at any moment to do the job. I probably drove 32 of the fastest laps of my career and I don’t feel like I’ve been the fastest man round this track. It was just quick enough to beat Josh but he pushed me to the end. My heart was beating out my chest coming through those back markers at that speed. It’s so mentally and physically draining!”

That said the efforts of Josh Webster, Michael Meadows and James Sutton must be commended as all three showed incredible pace throughout the weekend. Webster looked particularly strong in his Team Parker Racing Porsche 911 GT3 Cup Car and proved his mental strength to put Sunday’s first race out of his mind.

Jordan Witt (Redline Racing) regained the standings lead in the Pro-Am1 class with his second win of the day. He now has a slender advantage over main rival Ignas Gelzinis (Juta Racing) who could only manage third. They were joined on the podium by Daniel McKay (IN2 Racing) who performed admirably around his home track.

“It was quite a hard race out there if I’m honest,” McKay commented. “The heat out there was pretty strong. To finish in second place is a brilliant result, especially after starting the weekend in Pro-Am2. To do it on my home track with special people around me is an incredible feeling. I was just lucky enough to get off to a great start and then I just had to be aware of those around me.”

There was also a superb drive from Lithuanian Nerijus Dagilis (Juta Racing) who had to show immense discipline to take the Pro-Am2 spoils. The 41-year-old spent large parts of the race without his immediate rivals around him until both Peter and Thomas Jennings loomed large in his wing mirrors at the chequered flag.

“It was a lonely race for the most part but then I had to really focus at the end,” the Juta racer stated. “I got a good start and held my position before capitalising on some mistakes. I also managed to get off well after the safety car so I can honestly say I don’t feel Iike I made any mistakes and am going away very happy.”

The next Porsche Carrera Cup GB races will take place at Silverstone, Northamptonshire on the weekend of 26 and 27 September. In the meantime, be sure not to miss a thing by following us at @CarreraCupGB on Twitter and visiting www.porsche.co.uk/CarreraCupGB.
