Dacia has officially signed five-time Bog Snorkelling World Champion and world record holder, Neil Rutter, as the sport’s first-ever professional athlete, marking a milestone moment for one of Britain’s quirkiest endurance events.
The announcement follows Rutter’s latest victory at the 2025 Bog Snorkelling World Championships in Llanwrtyd Wells, Wales, where the Bath-based schoolteacher claimed his sixth career win with an impressive time of 1:18:13. The triumph not only cemented his position as the sport’s most successful competitor but also set the stage for his historic professional induction.
As part of his new partnership, Rutter joins the Dacia Adventure Community—a collective of adventurers, explorers, and outdoor enthusiasts who embody the brand’s ethos of celebrating everyday adventure. The community includes mountaineers, divers, hikers, and even sunset chasers, with Rutter now representing a sport renowned for its eccentricity, grit, and sheer spirit.
A First for the Sport
Bog snorkelling, now in its 39th year, has become a cult fixture in the sporting calendar, challenging competitors to swim two lengths of a 60-yard trench cut through a peat bog, armed only with snorkel and flippers. What began as an eccentric test of endurance has since grown into a globally recognised competition, with Rutter emerging as its defining figure.
Dacia’s backing is the first professional contract awarded in the sport’s history, offering funding and support to an athlete whose persistence and passion have inspired countless others to take the plunge.
A Partnership Rooted in Adventure
For Dacia, the move underscores the brand’s commitment to championing authentic adventure in all its forms. The tie-up with Rutter isn’t simply about celebrating sporting achievement—it’s about embracing the raw, unfiltered joy of the outdoors.
“As always, it’s an honour to participate in the Bog Snorkelling Championships,” said Rutter. “This year comes with even more cause for celebration than usual, as I announce my induction into the Dacia Adventure Community. Dacia’s reputation for adventure makes them the ideal brand for me, and for the sport. I’m proud to be the sport’s first professional athlete and I am looking forward to exploring more of the wonderful outdoors with Dacia and seeing what adventures we’ll achieve together.”
Luke Broad, Dacia Brand Director for the UK, added: “Adventure is in our DNA. We believe in embracing the raw, unfiltered joy of exploration, and Neil embodies just that. His dedication to bog snorkelling, a sport that demands both physical endurance and a genuine love for the outdoors, makes him an ideal candidate for our Adventure Community. We’re incredibly excited to have Neil join us as the first professional in the sport, as he continues to push boundaries and inspire others to find their own everyday adventures.”
Championing the Unconventional
By recognising bog snorkelling’s leading figure with a professional contract, Dacia has reinforced its reputation as the car brand that thrives off the beaten track—literally and figuratively. Whether it’s hiking through rugged landscapes, chasing sunsets, or snorkelling in peat bogs, the Dacia Adventure Community proves that adventure isn’t defined by grandeur, but by spirit.
And with Neil Rutter at the forefront, that spirit has never looked stronger.
