Currys, the UK’s largest electrical retailer, has announced a new and exciting partnership with Ohme, the country’s fastest-growing smart EV charger manufacturer. This collaboration marks a significant step for Currys as it enters the electric vehicle (EV) charger market, offering customers access to innovative charging solutions through both online sales and dedicated points of sale in 50 flagship stores across the UK.

Zoe Lucid, Senior Buyer at Currys, expressed the company’s enthusiasm for the partnership: “With EV sales in the UK up more than 10% this year, this new partnership between Currys and Ohme chargers was a natural step to offer to our customers. Ohme’s award-winning chargers and reputation for excellent customer service meant it was the obvious choice for Currys’ customers, helping them to make more sustainable choices combined with cutting-edge technology.”

The collaboration is equally significant for Ohme, a company that has rapidly gained a reputation for its smart, sustainable EV charging solutions. David Watson, CEO of Ohme, highlighted the partnership’s potential: “As the UK’s largest electrical retailer, we saw a collaboration with Currys as a big win for Ohme. It’s an exciting new route to the retail market that will bring EV chargers to a new audience, helping them to access smarter, greener, and cheaper EV charging in the future, ensuring that no driver is left behind in the transition to e-mobility.”

Currys Partners With Ohme To Bring Smart Ev Chargers To Uk Consumers

Ohme’s Smart Charging Technology
Ohme’s chargers stand out for their advanced smart charging technology, which connects to the national grid in real time and automatically adjusts charging to take advantage of off-peak tariffs. This allows EV drivers to charge their vehicles at the most cost-effective times, significantly reducing their overall running costs. For example, the average UK driver covers around 6,800 miles annually. With a smart tariff like Intelligent Octopus Go, which charges at 7p/kWh during off-peak hours, the total cost of charging for a year’s worth of driving would be just £127.50. In contrast, using the Standard Variable Tariff at 24.5p/kWh would cost £416, while the equivalent petrol car would cost more than £1,100 for the same mileage.

This cost-saving potential, combined with Ohme’s user-friendly technology, makes their chargers an attractive option for consumers looking to make more environmentally conscious and economically sound choices.

A Major Win for Both Brands
This partnership not only brings Ohme’s innovative products to a broader audience but also positions Currys at the forefront of the growing EV market, reflecting a significant shift towards sustainability within the retail space. The move aligns with Currys’ commitment to offering cutting-edge, energy-efficient products, ensuring its customers are equipped to embrace greener lifestyles.

Ohme, already the official charger provider for leading automotive brands like Volkswagen Group, Volvo Cars, Polestar, Mercedes-Benz, and Hyundai, further solidifies its standing in the industry. Recently named Best Chargepoint Manufacturer at the 2024 Irish EV Awards, Ohme continues to lead the charge in smart EV solutions.

This partnership marks a pivotal moment for both companies, signaling the future of EV charging accessibility in the UK and driving forward the nation’s transition towards a more sustainable, e-mobility-focused future.
