The CUPRA Terramar has emerged as one of the seven finalists for the prestigious Car of the Year 2025 award, solidifying its position as a standout in Europe’s fast-growing electrified SUV market. This nomination marks another milestone in CUPRA’s ascent, following in the tracks of the CUPRA Formentor and CUPRA Born, which were finalists in 2021 and 2022, respectively.
A New Era for CUPRA
The CUPRA Terramar, unveiled in September against the backdrop of the 37th America’s Cup in Barcelona, symbolizes the brand’s evolution. Designed as a bold, electrified sporty SUV, it embraces a fresh design language while delivering exceptional performance, sustainability, and emotional appeal.
Wayne Griffiths, CEO of CUPRA, highlighted the significance of this recognition, stating, “The selection of the CUPRA Terramar as finalist for the Car of the Year 2025 acknowledges that the CUPRA brand is growing, getting more mature and is more certain in its identity than ever before, without ever compromising on authenticity.”
A Tribute to CUPRA’s Heritage
Named after the iconic Terramar race circuit, the SUV pays homage to CUPRA’s roots. It blends innovative technology with a design ethos that challenges conventional SUV norms. The Terramar’s exterior exudes confidence and boldness, while its interior reflects CUPRA’s commitment to sustainability. Features include bucket seats upholstered with environmentally friendly materials like 100% upcycled SEAQUAL® YARN, Dinamica® with 73% recycled polyester, and leather processed using a plant-based tanning method.

Powertrain Versatility
The CUPRA Terramar offers five powertrain options across three technologies:
- TSI (Petrol)
- eTSI (Mild Hybrid)
- eHybrid (Plug-in Hybrid)
The plug-in hybrid powertrain delivers up to 272PS (200kW) and boasts an all-electric range of over 100km, ideal for eco-conscious drivers seeking high performance. The limited edition CUPRA Terramar America’s Cup, featuring the VZ powertrain with eHybrid and 2.0 TSI options, exemplifies this versatility.
The Road to Victory
The Car of the Year 2025 award process began with a long list of 42 candidates, narrowed down by a jury of 60 esteemed motoring journalists from 23 European countries. The winner will be announced in early 2025, with the Terramar standing as a strong contender.
A Testament to CUPRA’s Growth
The CUPRA Terramar’s nomination underscores the brand’s ability to blend cutting-edge technology, performance, and sustainability into vehicles that resonate with a broader audience. As CUPRA continues to redefine itself, its challenger mindset and innovative spirit position it as a rising force in the automotive industry.
As anticipation builds for the announcement of the Car of the Year 2025 winner, the CUPRA Terramar remains a testament to the brand’s unwavering commitment to innovation and excellence.
