CUPRA, the automotive brand synonymous with performance and innovation, is stepping into a new chapter with the introduction of its latest sporty SUV, the CUPRA Terramar. Set to hit European roads in early November, the Terramar represents CUPRA’s move upmarket, entering the fastest-growing segment in the region. This shift not only expands the brand’s product lineup but also introduces the CUPRA mindset to a new generation of customers.
Leveraging Expertise: Production at Audi’s Györ Factory
The production of the CUPRA Terramar is taking place at the world’s largest engine plant, Audi’s factory in Györ, Hungary. This collaboration underscores the synergies between CUPRA and Audi, optimising manufacturing processes and leveraging shared expertise. The Györ factory, with its workforce of over 12,000 employees, produces more than 170,000 vehicles and 1.6 million engines annually, making it the ideal site for this ambitious project.
“By leveraging the combined expertise of CUPRA and Audi, we have successfully integrated and optimised our processes. This project is a clear example of how joining forces benefits us all, making us more competitive and setting the stage for future collaborations,” noted Markus Haupt, Vice-President for Production and Logistics at CUPRA.
This production milestone also marks a significant step in the continued collaboration between Audi and SEAT S.A., which dates back to 2011. Over the years, nearly 800,000 Audi Q3s and 400,000 Audi A1s have been produced at the SEAT factory in Martorell, Spain. Now, the Györ factory becomes the first Audi facility to manufacture vehicles for a sister brand, further cementing the strategic partnership between these two automotive giants.

A New Challenger in the SUV Segment
The Terramar’s unveiling at the prestigious America’s Cup in Barcelona earlier this month signified its arrival as a key player in the SUV market. Named after the CUPRA Terramar race circuit in Sitges, where the brand first made its mark in 2018, this new model embodies the rebellious and performance-driven spirit of CUPRA.
Available in petrol, mild hybrid, and plug-in hybrid versions, the Terramar offers a versatile range of powertrains, catering to the growing demand for electrified mobility solutions. This diversity is matched by a striking colour palette that includes nine distinct hues, with two exclusive matt options – Century Bronze Matt and Enceladus Grey Matt – specially developed for this vehicle.
A Strategic Move for CUPRA’s Future
According to Wayne Griffiths, CEO of CUPRA, the Terramar signifies a crucial step forward in the brand’s evolution. “With today’s milestone, CUPRA takes an important step forward in the brand’s journey. With the CUPRA Terramar, we will not only grow our product portfolio but at the same time help our brand grow-up by bringing the CUPRA mindset to new customers and new growing segments, without losing our rebellious and challenger spirit.”
The Terramar is part of CUPRA’s largest product offensive to date, aimed at expanding its reach and influence in the competitive automotive landscape. This SUV will allow CUPRA to not only tap into the burgeoning demand for premium SUVs but also continue to push the boundaries of design and performance that have defined the brand since its inception.
Looking Ahead
With the CUPRA Terramar, the brand is poised to solidify its position as a formidable player in the European SUV market. By drawing on the strengths of its parent company, the Volkswagen Group, and leveraging the production capabilities of Audi’s Györ facility, CUPRA is set to bring a compelling new offering to market that reflects its unique identity and forward-thinking approach.
The future looks bright for CUPRA, and the Terramar is just the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the brand.
