Milton Keynes, 26 February 2025 – In a resounding victory for the unconventional and emotional challenger brand, CUPRA has been named Trendiest Brand of the Year at the prestigious Auto Motor und Sport Awards 2025. In just five years, CUPRA has surged past all competitors, solidifying its status as a trendsetting force in the automotive world.
A Milestone Achievement
For the first time, CUPRA has taken the top spot in the “Best Cars 2025” event, powered by the influential reader survey conducted by Auto Motor und Sport. A staggering 94,531 readers cast their votes, and 72 percent selected CUPRA as the most trending car brand.
Wayne Griffiths, CEO of CUPRA, expressed his gratitude and enthusiasm:
“In just seven years, we’ve introduced seven models, built a fully-fledged lineup, and attracted over 800,000 car enthusiasts to the brand. While we’ve matured, we’ve never lost sight of our roots. We remain the unconventional, emotional, and trendsetting brand that boldly defies expectations. This recognition inspires us to keep pushing boundaries and stay true to the rebellious spirit that defines us. Thank you to the CUPRA Tribe and Auto Motor und Sport readers for supporting us on this journey.”

From Newcomer to Industry Leader in Five Years
CUPRA’s journey in the Trendiest Brand of the Year category has been nothing short of extraordinary. First included in 2021, CUPRA debuted with a 48 percent approval rating. By 2022, this figure had jumped to 65 percent, securing sixth place. In 2023, CUPRA further cemented its presence, climbing to fourth place with 69 percent approval. Last year, the brand narrowly missed the top spot, finishing in second place with 71 percent. Now, with 72 percent, CUPRA has reached the pinnacle of the ranking, proving that its momentum is unstoppable.
Seven Models in Seven Years
CUPRA’s success is rooted in its commitment to challenging the status quo. Launched in February 2018, the brand set out to redefine performance and design, starting with the CUPRA Ateca. The introduction of the CUPRA Formentor, the first model exclusively developed by CUPRA, cemented its status as an industry disruptor. The lineup expanded with the CUPRA Leon and CUPRA Leon Sportstourer, both adopting the brand’s bold new design language in 2024.
CUPRA’s electrification journey began in 2021 with the CUPRA Born, its first all-electric model. The brand’s commitment to innovation continued with the CUPRA Tavascan, a striking all-electric SUV coupé, and the recently launched CUPRA Terramar, a sporty hybrid SUV. In just seven years, CUPRA has delivered seven distinct models, each redefining expectations and strengthening the brand’s appeal.
Market Share and Growth
CUPRA’s meteoric rise is reflected in its growing market share. The brand has consistently recorded double-digit growth, with Germany alone witnessing a 15 percent increase in registrations last year, reaching 84,281 units. This translates to an impressive 3.0 percent market share in 2024, with further expansion expected in 2025.
Award Ceremony in Hamburg
The Auto Motor und Sport Best Cars Awards celebrate their 49th edition this year, with full results and insights available in issue 06/2025, published on 27 February 2025. The highly anticipated award ceremony will take place on 9 May at the Fischauktionshalle in Hamburg, Germany, where CUPRA will officially receive its Trendiest Brand of the Year accolade.
With this landmark achievement, CUPRA reaffirms its position as a brand that refuses to conform, consistently setting new trends and reshaping the automotive landscape. The journey continues—bold, rebellious, and unstoppable.
