Mercedes‑AMG has once again redefined the boundaries of high-performance electric driving with the CONCEPT AMG GT XX, which recently captured global attention by covering 40,075 kilometres on the legendary Nardò test track in under eight days. During this extraordinary endurance challenge, the vehicle set 25 long-distance records, including the longest distance ever covered by an electric vehicle in 24 hours—an achievement surpassed fourteen times over by two meticulously prepared CONCEPT AMG GT XX models. Sustained speeds of 300 km/h for more than seven days underscored the car’s unmatched endurance and reinforced Mercedes‑AMG’s heritage of record-breaking innovation.
At the heart of this feat is a revolutionary drivetrain featuring three axial-flux motors and a direct-cooled battery—technologies destined for production in the upcoming AMG.EA high-performance architecture. Complementing this are numerous innovations spanning aerodynamics, cooling, intelligent software, and user experience.
Revolutionary Cooling and Aerodynamics
Central to the CONCEPT AMG GT XX’s sustained performance is its sophisticated Central Coolant Hub (CCH), a compact, integrated system that manages multiple cooling circuits with precision. Paired with a passive underbody cooling plate and advanced airflow management via the AIRPANEL system, the vehicle maintains optimal component temperatures during extreme driving, delivering full power without the limitations of conventional EV de-rating. Every aerodynamic element, from the low-slung bonnet and slender greenhouse to the extended diffuser and active louvers, balances drag reduction with high-speed stability. The result: a drag coefficient of just 0.19 even with wide high-performance tyres, translating into superior efficiency, range, and stability at 300 km/h.
High-Power Charging and Intelligent Software
Short charging times were enabled by a bespoke Alpitronic charging station and a temporary High-Power Charging Hub at Nardò, capable of transmitting currents up to 1,000 amps via a standard CCS cable—double previous limits. Complementing this hardware, the intelligent operating strategy, including the Battery Management System based on MB.OS, optimizes energy flow and monitors every individual cell in real time. Leveraging Formula 1® expertise, the system ensures peak performance at all times, dynamically adapting driving and charging strategy according to track conditions and battery status.
Purpose-Built UX and AR Innovations
The CONCEPT AMG GT XX cockpit integrates a tailor-made UI/UX display concept and an augmented reality racing helmet, offering drivers real-time feedback on speed, state of charge, lap count, and energy recuperation. Ergonomically optimized 3D-printed seat pads, adaptable for multiple drivers, and the “ThrillAR” experience provide immersive engagement, letting media and enthusiasts relive the record-breaking mission virtually.

Cutting-Edge Materials and Design Freedom
Innovations extend to exterior and interior materials, including biotechnology-based surfaces, illuminated paint segments, and headlight-integrated speakers. Aerodynamic control is further enhanced by pioneering plasma actuators, enabling precise flow separation without mechanical parts—offering new possibilities for vehicle design while improving drag and efficiency.
Collaborative Engineering Excellence
This record-breaking endeavor was made possible through collaboration with Michelin, Microsoft, and Signify. Michelin developed bespoke high-performance tyres, Microsoft provided the data infrastructure through MB.log in the Mercedes-Benz Intelligent Cloud, and Signify ensured precise, energy-efficient lighting along the track for optimal safety and performance.
Markus Schäfer, Mercedes‑Benz Group AG CTO, highlighted the brand’s legacy and vision: “Mercedes‑AMG and Formula 1® stand for innovation, intense competition, and pushing technical boundaries. With the CONCEPT AMG GT XX, we redefine the limits of performance in the era of electric drives.”
Mercedes‑AMG CEO Michael Schiebe added: “Many technologies from the CONCEPT AMG GT XX will soon appear in production vehicles. Customers can look forward to a new dimension of sustained electric power with our upcoming AMG.EA architecture, informed directly by the data and experience from Nardò.”
The CONCEPT AMG GT XX isn’t just a test car—it is a showcase of what is possible when pioneering engineering, intelligent software, and cutting-edge design converge. Its record-breaking performance in Nardò demonstrates a future where extreme endurance, rapid charging, and peak efficiency coexist, setting a new benchmark for high-performance electric mobility.
