In a strategic move to enhance its fleet’s performance, Clavell Caravans & Transport has recently introduced a state-of-the-art Mercedes-Benz Actros L tractor unit, affirming its commitment to reliability and fuel efficiency. This addition marks the second Actros to join the Lincolnshire-based operator’s robust six-vehicle lineup, following the success of a previously acquired model in 2017, which has delivered over 500,000 kilometers of efficient, trouble-free service.
The prior model, a 4×2 1845 unit equipped with a 12.8-litre six-cylinder engine generating 330 kW (450 hp), has demonstrated remarkable fuel efficiency, especially notable given the challenging conditions of transporting wide lodge buildings through rural areas. The new Actros L, an 1848 variant, ups the ante with a 350 kW (476 hp) engine from the advanced third-generation OM 471 series, designed for superior efficiency and driving dynamics.
Both vehicles were procured through Northside Truck & Van, backed by attractive financial services from Daimler Truck Financial Services and a comprehensive seven-year service contract, underscoring a partnership that blends performance with peace of mind.
John Harneiss, the owner of Clavell Caravans & Transport, praised the older Actros for its consistent fuel economy, achieving an impressive average of 8.9 miles per gallon under demanding conditions. With the new Actros L’s more potent engine, expectations are high for even greater fuel economy, potentially improving by up to a full mile per gallon.
Clavell’s diverse operation encompasses the purchase and sale of static caravans, lodges, and other prefabricated structures, as well as the transportation of specialized loads across the UK. Founded over two decades ago by Harneiss, the company is now steered by a dedicated team, including his son James, who transitioned from driver to managing the traffic office.
