Record-Breaking Auction: H&H Classics’ July Sale Achieves Over £1.3 Million in Total Sales
The latest auction held by H&H Classics on July 24th was a resounding success, with a remarkable 86 percent of the classic, collector, and performance cars on offer finding new homes. The event, hosted at the Pavilion Gardens in Buxton, saw total sales surpassing £1.32 million, highlighting the ongoing enthusiasm for vintage automobiles among global collectors.

A Full House and Global Interest
The auction’s saleroom was filled to capacity, demonstrating the high level of interest in the cars available. In addition to the physical attendees, hundreds of enthusiasts participated through various online bidding platforms and phone lines. The auction attracted more than 900 registered bidders, with bids coming from as far away as Australia, Malaysia, and the United States. Winning bids were successfully placed from countries including France, Italy, Switzerland, and the Czech Republic, underscoring the worldwide appeal of H&H Classics’ offerings.

James McWilliam, Sales Manager at H&H Classics, expressed his delight at the auction’s results, stating, “We’re delighted with the results in our latest auction. They show that the market remains lively, not just in the UK, but around the world too. Having over 900 registered bidders and a very strong sales rate shows that enthusiasts are still buying cars with sensible estimates and careful sale curation. We’d like to thank everyone who entered a vehicle, bid on one of the lots, or simply attended and help us create a wonderful atmosphere on the day.”

Top Sales and Notable Highlights
The highlight of the day was a 1967 Mercedes-Benz 250SL, which fetched the highest price at £139,500. This UK-market, highly specified, fully-restored example came from 50 years of ownership and achieved an impressive £40,000 over its lower estimate.

While the Mercedes-Benz 250SL topped the charts, significant pre-sale interest surrounded a former UK press fleet Audi Quattro UR. One of only four used for media duties, this modern classic sold for a robust £56,250, surpassing its lower estimate by over £16,000.

Another standout sale was an Aston Martin DB6 project, which sold for £76,500. The matching-numbers, manual gearbox model, although partially restored, provides the new owner the opportunity to complete it to their ideal specification.

Just behind the DB6 in value was a 1967 Mercedes-Benz 230SL, which sold for £69,750, again well over its lower estimate.

Pre-War and Other Notable Sales
Among the pre-war selection, a 1929 Lagonda 2-litre Tourer, supported by extensive history and previously in long-term ownership, fetched £51,750, comfortably exceeding its £40,000 lower estimate.

Other notable sales included a fully restored 1959 Ford Zephyr, which achieved £20,812, and a 1995 MG RV8 with just 2300 kilometers from new, selling for £31,500.

The David Lucas Collection
The collection of the late David Lucas, a renowned enthusiast and engineer, brought a variety of British classics from the 1920s to the 1980s to the sale. All required restoration or renovation and were offered at no-reserve. Among the highlights were a 1936 Armstrong-Siddeley 17hp Foursome Drophead Coupe, which sold for £8,550, a 1964 Triumph Herald 1200 Coupe for £6,975, and a 1975 Triumph 2000 MK2 Estate for £2,812.
