Chery South Africa has officially entered the light-commercial vehicle (LCV) segment with the introduction of the feature-rich Tiggo 4 Pro Panel Van. Based on the highly successful Tiggo 4 Pro compact SUV, this new LCV provides a versatile, cost-effective alternative to traditional bakkies, particularly for VAT-registered businesses that can claim back VAT on its purchase.

The Tiggo 4 Pro Panel Van retains the same contemporary styling and robust design as the Tiggo 4 Pro SUV, but with one key modification: the removal of the rear passenger seats to make way for a spacious load bay. Measuring 1,387 mm in length, 1,255 mm in width, and 941 mm in height, the secure cargo area offers a generous 1,500 litres of storage space. Access is made simple through both the rear tailgate and two side doors, ensuring easy loading and unloading.

For small businesses, couriers, and security firms, the Tiggo 4 Pro Panel Van offers practicality without compromising performance. Powered by Chery’s reliable 1.5-litre petrol engine, the van delivers 83 kW and 138 Nm of torque, with the option of a six-speed manual transmission or a continuously variable transmission (CVT). With a payload capacity of 360 kg, ground clearance of 180 mm, and an unbraked towing capacity of 750 kg, it is well-suited to a variety of commercial applications.

According to Siphiwe Nkutha, National Fleet Sales Manager at Chery South Africa, the new Tiggo 4 Pro Panel Van fills a gap in the market for those seeking a smaller, more nimble alternative to traditional LCVs. “The new Tiggo 4 Pro Panel Van builds on the many strengths of our strong-selling compact SUV and arrives as an affordable alternative to a full-size traditional bakkie. We see this model appealing to owners of small businesses as well as courier companies and even security firms, along with multiple other industries,” he commented.

Chery Expands Into South Africas Lcv Segment With The Tiggo 4 Pro Panel Van

Despite its focus on utility, the Tiggo 4 Pro Panel Van boasts a number of premium features as standard. Drivers benefit from keyless entry, 16-inch alloy wheels, LED daytime running lights, a 10.25-inch multimedia touchscreen (compatible with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto), cruise control, and an electronic parking brake. Safety is also a priority, with dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, Emergency Brake Assist, electronic stability control, traction control, hill assist, and rear parking sensors included across the range. The CVT model goes a step further, adding curtain airbags, tyre pressure monitoring, and a rear-view camera.

Chery’s entry into the LCV segment is expected to strengthen its already impressive presence in South Africa. In August 2024, the brand achieved fifth place in the passenger car segment, with a year-to-date ranking of eighth overall. Chery’s share of the passenger vehicle market has grown to nearly 6 percent, cementing its status as a rising force in the automotive industry.

Priced at R339,900 for the manual variant and R374,900 for the CVT model, the Tiggo 4 Pro Panel Van offers substantial value, backed by Chery’s industry-leading warranties. This includes a 3-year/30,000 km service plan, a 5-year/150,000 km vehicle warranty, and a 10-year/1-million km engine warranty, which is valid for the original owner.

With its attractive pricing, comprehensive warranty coverage, and a balance of practicality and premium features, the Chery Tiggo 4 Pro Panel Van looks poised to make a significant impact on the LCV market in South Africa.
