Audi and Rubicon Boost EV Infrastructure with Six New Ultra-Fast Chargers Across South Africa
In partnership with Rubicon, Audi has significantly enhanced South Africa’s electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure by installing six 150kW DC rapid public chargers in strategic locations nationwide. These new chargers are situated along the N1, N2, and N3 corridors, making them easily accessible to city dwellers and long-distance travelers alike. This initiative represents Audi South Africa’s third wave of charging infrastructure investment since 2022, bringing the total investment to over R50 million.
Johannesburg, July 2024 – Marking a pivotal step towards widespread electric mobility, Audi South Africa continues to lead the charge in public EV infrastructure. Following substantial investments in 2022 and 2023, Audi, in collaboration with its strategic partners GridCars and Rubicon, added more than 120 DC and AC public charging points to the national grid. Now, with its latest venture alongside Rubicon, Audi has installed six 150kW DC ultra-fast public chargers, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable mobility. This third wave of investment pushes Audi South Africa’s total spend on charging infrastructure past the R50 million mark.
Strategically Positioned Chargers for Maximum Convenience
The six new chargers, each equipped with two charging points capable of concurrent charging, are strategically placed along South Africa’s major highways – the N1, N2, and N3. These chargers are designed to serve both local commuters and long-distance travelers. Moreover, with a 150kW ultra-fast charger, an Audi e-tron battery can be recharged from 5% to 80% in under 30 minutes, ensuring minimal downtime for users.
