The festival promises a full day of activities, with gates opening at 7:30 am and closing at 7:00 pm, providing ample time to explore the grounds and enjoy the festivities. The first 50 arrivals will be treated to a special Festival Birthday surprise, adding to the excitement of the day.
Celebrating the Ordinary
The Festival of the Unexceptional is renowned for its unique focus on “unexceptional” cars—those everyday vehicles that were once a common sight but have since faded into obscurity. The event features a Concours de l’Ordinaire, showcasing some of the UK’s rarest ordinary cars. This year, thousands of vehicles will be on display, thanks to the dedication of FOTU fans who have preserved these mundane motors long after their manufacturers have ceased production.
Highlights: Ten Buried Brands
The 2024 festival will spotlight ten brands that have become rare sights on the road:
Austin
Founded in 1905, the Austin name was retired in 1988. Look out for the Austin Metro.
Daihatsu
Withdrew from Europe in 2013. The Daihatsu Charade is a likely appearance.
Datsun
Phased out in favor of Nissan in the 1980s. Expect to see the Datsun Cherry.
Daewoo
Entered the UK market in 1995 and went bust in 2002. The Daewoo Espero will be on display.
Lancia
Stopped UK operations in 1993, but the Lancia Beta remains a fan favorite.
Morris
Disappeared in 1984, with the Morris Marina likely making an appearance.
Mitsubishi
Closed UK operations in 2021. The Mitsubishi Colt will be among the featured cars.
Rover
Production ended in 2005. Look for the Rover 200 Series.
Triumph
The brand’s final vehicle was produced in 1981. The Triumph Acclaim will be on show.
Yugo
UK operations ceased in 1993, with the Yugo 45 being a rare sight.
