Dartford, Monday, 9 March 2026 – Caterham Cars has joined forces with luxury sports car retailer HWM to unveil the limited-edition Seven HWM Edition, a modern homage to the iconic 1951 HWM-Alta grand prix car. This collaboration celebrates HWM’s storied racing heritage while offering enthusiasts a collector’s-grade sports car.
Founded in 1938, HWM (Hersham and Walton Motors) carved a unique place in British motorsport history, becoming the first British team to secure a post-war Grand Prix victory. The 1951 HWM-Alta remains its most celebrated creation, achieving seven wins, seven second-place finishes, and ten thirds across international events, driven by racing luminaries including Sir Stirling Moss.
Only 19 examples of the HWM Edition Seven will be made available to UK customers, with prices starting from £57,990. Each car is finished in HWM Green, an exact match to the original 1951 racer, and features bespoke elements inspired by the classic HWM-Alta. These include side panel louvres, a custom nosecone grille, suspension wishbones, anti-roll bar, and headlight brackets finished in Retro Grey, alongside a chrome fuel filler cap and a dedicated HWM nosecone badge.
The attention to detail continues inside the cabin. The SuperSprint dashboard is crafted from hand-turned aluminium and features SMITHS chrome dials, a solid metal master cut-off switch, and a polished wooden Moto-Lita quick-release steering wheel. Chrome gear knob and handbrake accents sit atop a body-coloured transmission tunnel, while a choice of leather or composite race seats adorned with the HWM logo complete the bespoke interior. Each car also carries a ‘1 of 19’ plaque to underscore its exclusivity.
Under the skin, the HWM Edition is based on the Caterham 420, equipped with a naturally aspirated 2.0-litre Duratec four-cylinder engine delivering 210 bhp at 7600 rpm. This power, combined with a five-speed manual gearbox, produces a 0-60 mph time of just 3.8 seconds and a top speed of 136 mph, giving a power-to-weight ratio of 375 bhp per tonne. The result is an authentic, driver-focused experience that embodies Caterham’s lightweight performance ethos.
HWM, located in Walton-on-Thames, Surrey, has grown from its race car manufacturing roots into a luxury sports car business and became Caterham’s official South East retailer in 2023. The partnership between HWM and Caterham brought together decades of motorsport expertise, engineering know-how, and craftsmanship to create a car that is as historically significant as it is thrilling to drive.
Trevor Steel, Senior Vice President of Operations & CFO at Caterham Cars, remarked, “It’s been a real privilege to work with HWM on this special limited edition. Drawing inspiration from the legendary HWM-Alta racer, this car pays tribute to Walton-on-Thames’ rich racing heritage while celebrating the lightweight, driver-focused ethos that defines what Caterham is today. Bringing together two iconically British brands with deep roots in motorsport made this project especially meaningful.”
Guy Jenner, CEO at HWM, added, “We are immensely proud to celebrate HWM’s remarkable history as a works team and grand prix car constructor. Each of the 19 hand-built cars showcases exquisite detailing, with an outstanding sense of quality and craftsmanship. Our sincere thanks go to Caterham for being such an enthusiastic and committed partner.”
The Caterham Seven HWM Edition is now available for order, offering enthusiasts a rare opportunity to own a piece of British motorsport heritage combined with modern performance and bespoke craftsmanship.
